Rules Question - Sound the Alarm

By Swisherfan, in Star Wars: Destiny

My friend and I were playtesting Trilogy format last night. He feels that Sound the Alarm can reroll indirect damage because it says "Reroll any number of an opponent's dice showing damage (Ranged or melee)." and that indirect is damage should be included since it was prior to Legacies releasing. So I was wondering if it does or not.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Yes to the re-rolling since indirect damage is now included whenever a card references damage generally in the text. Where it's confusing is the now outdated symbols we see in brackets sometimes, like with Sound the Alarm. I gather they got around that by saying that anything in brackets is just considered support for the text and that the text comes first.

So say they release a fourth damage type next set, Palpatine - Darth Sidious will be able to decrease event costs by up to 4, even though the only symbols on his card today are melee, ranged and indirect.

At least that's how I understand it all, I could be wrong.

"Showing Damage" includes Indirect Damage. Sound the Alarm can be used on Indirect Damage. Parenthetical Text on cards is reminder text only.

"Showing" Page 21 SWD Rules Reference:
Effects which reference a certain symbol showing on a die work with any side showing that symbol, even if it is a modified side. Showing damage includes ranged, melee, and indirect damage.

"Reminder Text" Page 15, SWD Rules Reference:
Reminder text is text in parentheses that clarifies game text. It is used to remind players of rules and does not supersede the rules.

Only time it doesnt blanket affect damage is if the actual text is calling out melee damage, ranged damage, indirect damage. If it just says damage, its a blanket effect that works on them all.
As stated above, parenthesis are strictly reminder and not the rule. Its a practice FFG has fallen into that i wish they'd stop doing (Xwing 2.0 is doing it too as is Legion and i find it highly, highly irritating because often something doesnt line up)

If it was the rule, then Datapad could turn a die to indirect damage since its (Melee or Ranged) commented.
