I’m working to bring a large Armada tournament to Spokane, WA, this autumn. I still have many details to iron out, but I wanted to make a preliminary announcement so that anyone interested can keep the dates in mind.
Here are the details that I can confidently reveal at this time:
It will be a two-day event, Saturday, October 6th and Sunday, October 7th. Saturday will be a standard Swiss tournament with a cap of 60 players. We will have a top cut, and those players will play a tournament on Sunday to decide the overall winner (I haven’t settled on a format for Sunday yet). The depth of the cut will depend on the number of players we have overall, but will probably be top 8.
Also on Sunday, we will have side events available for anyone not in the top cut. These are likely to be task force format and 2v2 team play, though we have a couple other ideas we are throwing around.
I’m not quite ready to announce prizes, but I can say that 100% of the registration fees will go directly to prizes, and it will be a mix of tangible prizes like acrylics and cards (and a couple of other cool items) and store credit in the venue of the event.
Which, of course, brings me to the location of the event. The tournament will be held at Gamers Haven in Spokane Valley (a suburb of Spokane) just north of I-90 on Pines Rd. It is close to several hotels. The Gamers Haven can comfortably accommodate 30 Armada tables. We know this because the owner hosts a 60-player Warhammer 40k event every year for, I think, the last 12 years or so, and they have room to spare. It is the largest WH 40k event in the Pacific Northwest. And for anyone from out of town who wins store credit, the store is happy to ship mail orders — this is what they do with the Warhammer tournament and it is very successful, with players coming from as far away as SoCal and several international players from Canada.
Spokane itself is a cool small city. We have an abundance of game stores here and the gaming community is wonderful. Star Wars Armada, in particular, is thriving here. I expect that 15-20 of the players for this tournament will be local, and it could possibly be even higher.
I will post a full announcement with the cost of registration and a list of prizes as soon as I am able, so please stay tuned.
Feel free to comment below if there is something you hope to see from an event like this.
Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you in the fall!
