Is this any good?

By Sybreed, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I've never really tried Sloane... I might go to a small local tourney this saturday and thought I could try her out. Winning the tourney isn't top priority but I at least want to have something that works. Could this list be good? My main concern is that it might lack in overall damage.

Name: Untitled Fleet copy
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Admiral Sloane

Assault: Station Assault
Defense: Contested Outpost
Navigation: Superior Positions

Quasar Fire I (54)
• Flight Controllers (6)
• Expanded Hangar Bay (5)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Pursuant (2)
= 71 Points

Interdictor Suppression Refit (90)
• Admiral Sloane (24)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Engineering Team (5)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Grav Shift Reroute (2)
• Targeting Scrambler (5)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
• Interdictor (3)
= 146 Points

Raider I (44)
• Agent Kallus (3)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Flechette Torpedoes (3)
= 54 Points

Squadrons:
• Colonel Jendon (20)
• Maarek Stele (21)
• Ciena Ree (17)
• Dengar (20)
• Zertik Strom (15)
• Mauler Mithel (15)
• Valen Rudor (13)
= 121 Points

Total Points: 392

If you drop the Raider for two Gozantis, it looks pretty solid. That way you can effectively command your squadrons and possess a reasonable activation count, while fielding the safer Most Wanted over Station Assault (which offers a very realistic 160 point swing for the other player, GSR or not.) If you're so inclined, you could also downgrade Dengar to a Jumpmaster so you can add Howlrunner. She'll help you proactively kill them, and your Intel should be pretty safe (if it's not that's a sign you need to win the squadron war anyway.) If you're set on a bid, Zertik could also be made a generic, and the Engineering Team could go.

Good luck at the tourney!

hmmm, but wouldn't that reduce my firepower even more? I mean sloane squads are good, but there aren't any bombers in there.

If you have Zertik in there you are probably better off with soontir Fel as you will get to trigger his ability more often, and realistically with that many squadrons people are gonna know its not worth targeting Ciena. The Jendon/Mareek combo is good but I think its overated. For less points you can get 20 hull worth of TIE Bombers that can do more damage than Mareek can, and they make a slightly less attractive target than Mareek who will forever have a bullseye over him. With Sloane you really want to max out the squads for as much damage/token spending as possible, and you only have 5 squadrons here that benefit from her, would suggest either switching admiral to maybe motti for extra hull. These are just my thoughts of course, and I like to run slightly unusual fleets at tournaments, go with what you think is good in your mind. Rule of Cool is a good way to play :)

The lack of External Racks means you don’t have truly meaningful anti-ship firepower on the Raider as is (neither sustained nor high) and the squads need someone to push them all beyond a lone Quasar. I don’t personally know how the Interdictor gets its killing done (trap a large base and repair with squad support, I believe?) but it seems unlikely that an FT Raider is the optimal support craft.

@Snipafist did very well with an Interdictor + 4 list. Perhaps he has some thoughts?

I wouldn't ever run a Raider with only 3 activations. It's gonna DIE. That's from the part of me that loves Raiders.

I won Saturday Adepticon with Sloane Interdictor (second with a similar, now illegal post-errata list on Thursday) + Quasar + Gozanti. I think if you can keep costs down, you could go for two Gozantis instead of just one but the points get tight. You'll only have two ships between you and getting tabled, which is always tricky.

Otherwise, I'm not keen on the uneven number of squads (Saber Squadron can fit in there, for example) or Station Assault as the red objective. With so few ships it's really common for a Gunnery Team opponent ship to only have one target, and then he'll just get a free shot on a station. I understand the synergy with Grav Shift Reroute, I just don't think it's as strong as Most Wanted (assuming a Gozanti or two in the fleet). Speaking of Gozantis (I already did above a bit), it really needs at least one. Comms Net and Hondo are really good for keeping the Interdictor loaded up on nav and repair tokens, which it needs. Good players will be gunning for your Quasar pretty hard and your Interdictor for the most part really shouldn't be commanding squadrons because it will be busy with nav/repair. You need something(s) to pick up the slack.

Yeah, I don't feel confident enough in the list so I'll go with a Interdictor/Double Glad/Gozanti list I tried 4 weeks ago.
