In need for ideas regarding prize support to lower ranked players

By tsondaboy, in X-Wing

Talk to a company like curled paw and order a bunch of New style acrylic range 1 movement templates.

A bottle of booze for last place.

I always pass down the line the prizes from the kits including the one reserved for the TO. Although I hardly ever miss and alt art because I always place in the top 3. ;)
Participants get doubles of tokens and cards after everyone down the line has got one and there are left overs, in which case I start from the top and down the line again.

Raffle tickets for losses is not a bad idea, I might do it next time.

Another idea is a prize for the most points destroyed in a game a player lost, to promote people fighting to the last and not giving up.

Only 40 players in the Tokyo area? Wow. Hopefully, the game will grow.

On topic: i would order acrylic bits to hand out. And be free about giving away extras--that helped me into my local scene.

Unfortunately it wont, not until FFG gets the license or finds a distributor to sell the game over here.

That's a shame--But i guess i don't really know (I mean--it's obviously a shame for you since you're into the game)--is Star Wars a big deal in Japan?

Its as big as everywhere else. We even have star wars themed snacks sold at the local grocery store and Tokyo Disneyland has a whole section of the park dedicated to Star Wars.

Okay, I thought it might be, but I didn't want to make an assumption. I've only been to Okinawa, and that was 20+ years ago.

I found that hitting up the bottom two tables with something like a chwazi app is awesome, since its random yet people feel they have won something. (all players put one finger on the phone, chwazi animates a little and selects one, give that person a prize!) I run tournaments and will go reach the app over one of the players in the bottom tables, then have all nearby players dive in. Super quick and I think it works pretty good. I like to give away painted ships though...

Curled Paw is amazing for random prizes. Lots of places now make those random tokens you only need one of like disabled weapons, Kylo, Palp, etc. Even the bomb dropping 1 speed templates work well. And now with new barrel rolls, I'm sure someone would get you a deal if you ordered up a bunch of new 1 straight templates with lines for the barrel rolls on them. Bonus points for having them put the venue name on them too, since sometimes the store will sponsor those!

I hear table top miniatures games are hard to play in Japan simply because the tables and venues required are large.

licensing is such a pain! at least you can console yourselves with the full line of Ban-dai figure kits and the 1-144 vehicles range.

hey you could just buy the 1/144 bandai ships and play double size x-wing.
