Next month i plan and get one of the core sets if not two i am wondering that can mix and match the ships with the core sets. For example I get the blue core which i know it the new trilogy but get the classic red x-wing, are this two compatible?
Mixing and matching ships (new at at this)

Currently, yes they are compatible. The Rebel X-wing and Resistance T-70 X-wing belong to the same faction, and you can fly Poe and Wedge together. This will always be true of 1st Edition X-wing.
However, in 2nd Edition, which is coming out in a few months, the Rebels and Resistance will be split into separate factions. In a 2e game you wouldn't be able to fly them together. 2nd Edition will come with its own core set, and have separate conversion kits for each faction that you can buy to make your 1st Edition ships legal to play in 2e.
Hope this helps
The ships are still completely usable in 2.0, but the dials and pilot cards and upgrade cards are absolutely not transferable.
You are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Buy something where the majority of stuff is outdated in 4 months, or wait 4 months to get new content...

They can mix and match for now.
I would probably just wait til September and buy the new core set and ships.
If you want stuff now, try ebay or locals getting out of the game, to get ships dirt cheap. Or else, maybe just buy the red core and maybe Saws Renegade/Reaper expansions (since those will be 2.0 ready). That will give you enough ships to practice/play with and not gouge a hole in your wallet when 2.0 is released.
If money is not an object, then DILLY DILLY! and enjoy.
Thank who all who replied. I was leaning to the blue or the force awakes set for updated damage decks. I may want compete in tournaments. I was all ready look at ebay were I found the core sets at almost 2 for 1. Especially the store I can find them sells them for 39 with 9% sales tax here. For now yes money is a small concern, I wanted to collect all the ships. I also they put the N-1 Naboo Starfighter into game
