Oh My God I Just Realized Something!!!

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

But guys. GUYS. They've specifically stated something over and over: that there will be a bigger price gulf for high PS, highly maneuverable ships vs their generic counterparts.

Which means something I am ABSURDLY FREAKING OUT ABOUT:

Interceptor Swarms.

Boom.

I mean 18 pts for 3 agi 3 hull is trash. BUT if it's siginificantly cheaper, an I1, 3-attack ship with boost AND barrel roll LINKED! This is too good to be true! I'm hoping I can get 6 in a list!

Possibly

But will they be better than striker swarms?

Still seems like Adaptive > 2.0 thrusters

...for now

But the real question is are they more iconic?

And the answer is a resounding yes. Who doesn't want to play the Empire at the battle of Endor?

My favorite pilot can run basic PTL to run along side another, usually next to Turr Phennir with a heavy buzzaw Lambda or simple RAC:

I don't

I don't enjoy playing green dice :(

EVERYTHING is going to be good.

This is a new game where they are harnessing their experience from Imperial Assault, Armada, and Legion to make a product where everything is relatively balanced to start out.

Cool, sounds like you’ve actually played with all the ships in 2.0 or at least seen their points costs to make such a bold claim, because FFG, and especially this team of designers, doesn’t have a very good track record of games being balanced upon release.

Or are you just making baseless claims because you’re so hyped for 2.0?

One thing that really only just sunk in for me: with upgrade slots coming from the app, they'll be able to easily add new types of upgrades to older ships retroactively without requiring a clunky title.

For that matter, if they add a new action that they want to retrofit, they can do something like put that new action onto a configuration card for an older ship, then add a configuration slot to the older ship.

They've given themselves lots of room to make sure older ships can continue to keep up, if need be.

You know I haven't seen it all so don't act like a patronizing troll.

The latter I suppose, forgive me for being optimistic.

The Imperial Aces interceptor pilots can all be made good with the revamp! And maybe even Fel's Wrath, too! Who k ow how they'll all change in 2.0!?

I'd be a bit surprised if we got Fel's Wrath in 2nd edition at all - at least, not the name. Especially now that we've had more canonical pilots added to the universe. I mean...right?

While technically true, do keep in mind that FFG still needs to sell product. So...keeping older things viable makes a certain amount of sense, but they DEFINITELY want you to keep buying the new releases, too.

I think FFG would be well served to get the online squad-builder (and rules) out there ASAP with a huge *asterisk* that everything is still subject to change. You have a large community that would love to playtest all this stuff before release. Take advantage of it and listen to the feedback to help dial in point values before September.

I don't think it could hurt sales.

I expect to see the app the week of GenCon.

What about Lambda swarms?

Adding a slot for a new upgrade type doesn't do anything if you don't buy the expansions that include the upgrades of that type. If anything, it means that customers who might not be interested in a new ship, but do want the new upgrade type for their existing ship will end up buying an expansion they otherwise might not have been interested in.

FFG wouldn't even be breaking their promise that all upgrades would be available to all factions solely by buying expansions for a single faction: if a B-Wing gets a new upgrade type slot added because of the release of, I dunno, an H-Wing, then it's still available from a Rebel expansion.

True enough. And it doesn't even need to be a new upgrade type, per se. You could have a ship release with a super-heavy turret or something that takes two 'turret'-slot upgrades (sort of like how 1.0 Unguided Rockets takes 2 'missile' slots) and that new ship has two turret slots to use it...then FFG can go back and add a second turret slot to potentially some earlier ship that needs a buff to take the new turret.

Actually I would like to see Fel's Wrath still, and get a different ability for Ree. Something neat.

So I've been wondering a couple things:

1) A LOT of EU characters are going to get axed from 2.0. Corran Horn, Kyle Katarn, Jan Ors, Countess Ryad, Carnor Jax, Tycho... who knows? Which character, if axed, would cause you to go into a buthurt fanboy rage?

2) The EU characters that do survive.... aren't like almost all of them force sensitive? (Besides Luke vs Luuke was there anything lamer in the EU?) I guess they all get force tokens too.

I don't think they're axing any pilots. Am I wrong?

It made me sad to discover that you didn't make this up, and that it's a (sort of) real thing. ?

Some old pilot abilities have shown up on new pilots (Juno Eclipse). Some old pilot art has been reassigned to new pilots (Dark Curse).

Read into that what you will.

That a single exclamation point denotes excitement all by itself?!

Pretty sure they said everything was coming back.

They have said the opposite of that. They said that the conversion kits will contain everything for 2.0, but were clear that not every pilot or upgrade was making it into 2.0.
