I'm confused about the crew in star ships. Are the crew the same as any PC except the GM controls their Maneuvers and Actions? Or do they just sit there until they are needed for combat? If they are like PCs, do they need to rest? Also, do you hire crew or do they come with the ship, if they do cost how much would it be? If you do hire them are they Minions, Rivals, or Nemesis'?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make the best experience for my party.

A ship doesn't come with a crew.

The listing is what the ship needs to function.

Usually, you want the PC's to fill the crew requirements.

The Silhouette 4 ships usually only require a small crew. The YT-1300 (i.e.: Millennium Falcon) only requires 2.

Most of it is up to the gm and the story. So it'll vary wildly.

Depends. Technically they are living beings (or droids) and behave as such. They have hopes and dreams and bills to pay and mouths to feed.

For mechanics, it'll depend. Some characters will just be background action most of the time. Crate busters, load masters, and the like will probably just hang out doing their job without much rolling most of the time.

Navigators, or flight engineers might make rolls from time to time.

And some like gunners (who may also be those crate busters and load masters) will only come up in combat.

If it's an independent ship owned and operated by the players, then they'll probably have to hire out. If it's owned or operated by someone else, then they may provide the crew.

The gm will have to tune this to match the campaign. Don't want to have some story critical cratebuster cost 500 credits if the job only pays $200...

Some dumb n00b cratebuster is likely a minion. An experienced pilot/copilot is probably a rival. That navigator that is one of only a handful who can navigate the Fosloin Rings without your ship ending up in an ice cube or eaten by a space slug may be a Nemesis...
