I would chose carrion spike. I think it’s medium???
IF you had your choice to pick a new medium imperial ship what would it be?

Carrion Spike is a Corvette, so I'd guess small.
For what I'd add:
Rebels would get the MC40
Imperials would get a Ventator-class StarDestroyer

Based on the description in Tarkin and from the cloaked ship in Clone Wars I would assume small. The spike seemed to have a small crew.

Yup. Rebels really need a medium ordnance or ion platform. I think the MC40 would open up an awful lot of options for rebel fleet building and help boost the diversity even more.
Venator. Since it showed up in Rebels, pretty sure we are going to get it sooner or later.
I’d go Acclamator. The in-universe variants would make for interesting game options, ie: a dedicated Assault ship & a med combat ship.
Venator is a fighter carrier. Not long had one of those.
Ahem

I would prefer the Venator as a large, it is virtually the same size as the MC80 Liberty. Dreadnaught heavy cruiser or Imperial Escort Carrier would be my picks for a medium for the Imperials. Honestly, the Empire desperately needs small ships, especially with the Flotilla limit.
Rebels are the ones who need medium base ships.
I would pick the Deadnaught Heavy Cruiser.

Is it not enough that you have both an incredible large and small base Ion/Ordnace ships? Rebels... never content with what they have.

If I hear one more “we need a rebel quasar”.....

Wait... we Rebels aren’t going to get our version of an Imperial ship every time we capture one in canon?
Totally agree with you btw.

Back on the topic of MEDIUM IMPERIAL ships as the OP says (before it was hijacked by team Venator and Rebels in general)
I think at this point a Dreadnaught Heavy cruiser is a likely Imperial Medium. Problem is the Victory. Either it will suck, in order to not completely replace the Victory, or it will completely replace the exceedingly mediocre at literally everything VSD. Imperials already have a mediocre-but-now-expensively-bandaided ion platform in the Interdictor and a capable carrier in the Quasar. And then there is the generalist Victory. I would REALLY like to see the design space the Victory's are squandering filled, but doing that in the form of a new ship that most casual Star Wars fans wouldn't even be able to identify as a Star Wars ship seems far to X-Wing to me.
If *I* were going to design a Dreadnaught though, based on design space and aesthetic design, I think the Support Refit Nebulon would be a great starting point . Keep all the command stuff the same (Antisquad battery 1 blue, command 2, 1 squad, 3 engineering). Set it on a medium base, add 2 blue to the front and 1 red to the sides keep the rear 2 red. Keep the nav chart the same. Give it a redirect instead of an evade. Up the hull to 6 and beef the shields to 4, 3, 3, 2. Keep the upgrade slots the same but add an ion cannon slot (Giving it Officer, Support, Ion, Turbo - a pretty light suite). Add 20pts to put the cost at 71. Give it 2 titles that inform the roles it plays and not be some generalist garbage like imperials typically get. Boom. Done.

Vindicator. At 600m that should be big enough to be a medium ship.
I bet the next Imperial medium based ship we see is the Rebels show version of the Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser = The Imperial Support Vessel.

Maybe, but it is basically the same size as a GSD, without the cutaway on the front.

How about a 3rd faction scum quasar?

1) The Venator is smaller than the canon Interdictor, which is a medium.
2) The Dreadnaught (or Imperial Support Ship/Frigate as the canon version is called) is around a Nebulon in size, making it small base.

Point for Team Venator

The canon lengths are:
Interdictor - 1,129 meters
Venator - 1,155 meters
Liberty - 1,200 meters
Putting the Venator in a spot where it could be made either, depending on what is needed.

Wookiepedia lists the Neb B at 300m and the Dreadnaught at 600m. In addition the lengths might be similar but that Dreanaught’s gotta out-mass that skinny Neb by several times.
All of which is to say I think it’s perfect as a medium ship.
I love Broba’s ideas, but I might make its Nav chart 0-1-1 at speed 3, just to give it a more lumbering feel. Also, do we know if they were more broadsidey or front arc-y?

The Interdictor, I always assumed was made medium because the gravity well projectors limit it's offensive capacity, as it is clearly of greater volume than the Liberty. The Venator was a purpose built warship, with greater volume than a Liberty. It does give up a lot of space for the main hangar, more even than an ISD.

It looks so nice on a small base though.
