Hi there Anyone got a recently reprinted (end od 2017) copy of SoN expansion? Does the quality of hero and monster miniatures improved over the "melted zombie face" heroes from the ones that ware present in first production run?
Reprinted Shadow of Nerekhall minis quality
I do not have a new copy of Nerekhall, but I have heard of no change in the miniature production for this expansion. It would be interesting, though.
I've not seen any photo of recent reprint minis from that box either. Reprint of LotW made on the same production run as SoN have a bit better casted monster minis(less mold lines and overall smoothness), sculpts are unchanged, but details are more crisp, especially on the softer tan colored dragon hybrids. Still the original print run of LotW was of nice quality, and it was fun to paint that stuff. LotW re-release is on par with Chains that Rust or recent H&M packs quality.
I got my copy in 2017 and I think thats the reprint. I don't have any reference of the old prints, but I took a picture of my hero's (unpainted) so you can see for yourself. The monster in my SoN are looking good!
The major difference is the scale, those heroes are the old (smaller) scale then the new H&M and expension sets.
Hope this helps!

Some pretty awful flashing on some of those.

Thx:) I dunno what that means, maybe the (20)16 July 10th. Still those minis look a bit better than the ones I've seen. And well, Tinashi and Orkell have really ugly sculpts.

Yea could be. Well after reading the post of Alcovitch I looked at my copy of LoR for comparison and the quality of those mini's are better!
For me personally it's not a problem, nothing I can't fix by painting them, but I can imagine that for those who keep them this way it's a shame the quality of them is lower...
the only problem I found is the different scale between early content and new content.
Well- first production run had those two almost faceless, kinda melted, no noses, disfigured eyes etc. Thats why I look forward to the last printing- last LotW print run is very nice, very sharp details. Definitely better quality. Scale is of course smaller than H&M latest boxes.

Painting doesn't hid mold lines or flashing, it will draw attention to it.
You can remove it before painting, and it's usually a pain in the ***, and looking at the shots listed above, the mold lines are in really obvious places. Poor planning was done creating the molds for these models. Not even the base game has models that awful.
Yeah, modeling knife, files and green stuff are your best friends here. But those SoN minis are really cheap/lousy looking, when compared to other H&M and expansion boxes stuff. Even mantic "Kings of plastic garbage"armies are better casted. This is the only expansion I find just plain ugly in terms of miniatures. Unfortunately I don't think there is a chance to avoid that, maybe I will try to fix them somehow or get some proxys for those two.
Is this expansion discontinued or something? it's impossible to buy anywhere. Even a local boadgame shop that has every other expansion and a bunch of sought after Lieutenants doesn't have this. Can't find it anywhere online in Canada, it's sold out.
What the ****?
It was reprinted by the end of 2017 as I can remember. It should be plenty of brand new stock for it. FFG list it as available to purchase, dunno if they ship to Canada. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/descent-journeys-in-the-dark-second-edition/products/shadow-of-nerekhall/
Shadow of Nerekhall unlocked a new full campaign in Road to Legend if you owned it. The app was pretty popular at the time, so most of the back stock laying around got bought up.
This was almost a year before the reprinting took place(jan2017). Reprinted boxes shipped around November 2017 as I can remember. I just googled it out, and there seems to be in stock in Canada as well. Maybe that local shop just run dry of it.
no local shops have any copies. And we are talking about shops that have dedicated sections to Descent. They have everything else but this one expansion.
Thats kinda weird. Maybe they are not aware that the reprint was made- it was quite long in "out of stock" status.
Even places online that did have 1 or 2 copies i saw them go out of stock almost real time. It's like someone was buying up the few remaining copies.
Anyways, I managed to snag a copy from Meeplemart before it becomes impossible to find. I'm guessing since it unlocks a full campaign everyone bought this one box and nobody bothered to restock it since the game is so old.
I hope your copy will come with good quality miniatures:)

They are OK. Mists of Bilehall had better sculpts and cleaner models. Mine have similar "monkey faces". Lack of noses or something makes the heroes faces look really strange and featureless. I wasn't even aware the hero with the double axes was a human until I looked at the art on his player card. Sadly, the mini's are kind of meh.
