On the Imperial one, I don't get how 2 Cores and 1 Expansion nets you 9 TIEs?
Rebels - Core Set & Saw's Renegades = $80
Imperials - Core Set, two TIE Expacs, Advanced = $100
Scum - Core Set, Firespray, two Fangs = $110
You can always cut corners with trading, like your blog suggested, but I think baking that into your assumption for buy-in price aimed at complete beginners may not be that helpful.
Because he trades the Xwing for 2 TIEs with other local gamers (if lucky)

Our local x-wing group has already seen a flurry of trades in preparation of 2.0. They aren’t that hard to find.

Yup, this is the assumption if you have any type of player base around you. I guess I left out if you're in a low population density area.
