So with 5 factions (Rebel,Empire,Scum,Resistance,FirstOrder) how does a typical wave look?

By Sciencius, in X-Wing

Do we get a minimum of 5 ships per wave? Or?

So ever since the introduction of Scum and Villainy, we have almost alway seen 3 ships in a wave, one for each faction, sometimes a faction got just a little more love and got two ships (except this last wave which is STILL waiting for the Scum Falcon!! no sorry), but now with 5 factions do we get a minimum of 5 ships per wave? Or are some factions going to be left waiting..

(This is post is in NOWAY meant negative about 2'edition - I am SO much looking forward to it and have preordered 1 Core Set + 2 Conversion Boxes for all 3 factions, I am just genuine curious)

I suspect that they will stagger the releases. I'm also guessing the conversion kits for wave two will also include the t-70 and TIE/fo releases.

We may get waves that don't include ships from a classic era. There just isn't enough ships currently for both the First Order and Resistance.

We may not get new ships for quite a while, just rereleased ships for 2.0.

I did not actually think of that.. you are quite right, post the conversion kits, first and second wave: we may see waves mainly consisting of Resistance and First Order ships.. especially considering Scum is not being "split". Could Scum, Rebel, and the Empire be "done"(!?!) perhaps they feel like introducing a new Faction...

First "New Ship" wave after 2.0 will probably be broken down as such:

Wave 15

Part 1: Rebellion and Imperials

Part 2: Scum & Villainy

Part 3: Resistance and First Order

it is sad that one must put a disclaimer down, or be attacked by the trolls.

I don’t see the Rebellion or Empire getting many more ships unless there’s a new movie set in the OT era.

Maybe Empire gets the new Tie from Solo and Scum gets the Falcon. Maybe some EU ships for the Rebellion?

The next wave is wave 1, then wave 2 brings resistance and fo.

So I guess wave 3 will be the one you are talking about.

Isn't there a Boba Fett movie already green-lit? And I'm pretty sure they'll do a Lando movie, especially if Solo does well :)

Plenty of opportunity for OT ships!

I’ve only seen rumors on the Fett film, nothing substantial enough for me to place any credibility to it. Also rumored would be a Kenobi film.

I’m sure they’ll come up with more because as long as the films sell well Disney won’t cut off an era.

My current speculation is that it’ll be all re-releases for the original 3 factions, plus some new Resistance & First Order ships to help flesh them out as factions.

We still don’t have our resistance Awing from TLJ, and I am sure there will be plenty of new content between Episode 9 & Filoni’s new Resistance era show.

The original era ships are basically complete outside of more esoteric EU options. Maybe just the shuttle from Rogue One.

I am basically planning on buying the card packs only for a while following the Resistance & FO conversion kits, unless they start cranking out all new designs as well.

I look forward to laying waste to Prequel era ships!

Honestly, I'd be fine with this. Rather than seeing "TIE Bizzaro Mark 8" or "H-Wing," I'd much rather just see alternate pilots, droids, and other options for existing ships. I'd rather have 10 T-65 X-Wing Pilots than 4 X-Wing pilots and several obscure, odd, bottom-of-the-barrel craft. With the way the "Saw's Renegades" is seeming to port over immediately into 2.0, it's kinda weird that we've got folks like Saw's Tube-Faced weirdos in T-65s, but we won't have people like General Anton Merrick (Blue Leader) in an X-Wing.

As deeply steeped in Star Wars lore as I am, I can only think of a single ship I'd really want to still see added to the Rebel line-up (Nien Nunb's Mellcrawler freighter, appearing now in several comic series and novels). I cannot think of a single Imperial ship I'd like to see, not even that TIE/Pod (don't eat it, kids!) sort of thing appearing in Solo: A Star Wars Story. A TIE Fighter with a cannon slot? A lighter TIE Bomber protoype? Eh, not really all that compelling.

That was Josh Trank's movie. He kinda got fired, which moved things around a bit in terms of production order.

As for the waves, I think they are going to be mixed after the re-releases. You won't necessarily see every faction represented.

One thing to hypothesize is with the change in how x-wing is sold, that of zeroing in on a faction, is we may very well get a box set of ships. They have said the old repaints aren’t getting rereleased, so there will probably be something to take over for them.

While many won't do it, I plan on only buying one of any sku released, partly due to funds, but I suspect we will get rereleased in boxed sets at some point. Plus with the 2.0 rerelease, I will get multiples of ships.

I for one welcome our new clanker overlords.

I have stuff for all the factions, but I really like Scum. They're what brought me back into the game. So, I pay special attention to their releases.

Wave X:

  • Quadjumper Scum, Modern Era (TFA tie-in)
  • Sabine's TIE Rebels, Classic Era (Rebels tie-in)
  • U-Wing Rebel, Classic Era (RO tie-in)
  • TIE Striker Empire, Classic Era (RO tie-in)
  • Upsilon Shuttle First Order, Modern Era (TFA tie-in)

Wave XI

  • Scrugg H-6 Bomber Scum, Classic Era? (Legends?)
  • Azituck Gunship Rebel, Classic Era (Rebels)
  • TIE Aggressor Empire, Classic Era? (Legends?)

Wave XII

  • M12-L Kimogila Scum, Classic Era? (Legends?)
  • Phantom II Rebels, Classic Era (Rebels tie-in)
  • Alpha-class Star Wing Empire, Classic Era? (Legends?)

Wave XIII

  • Resistance Bomber Resistance, Modern Era (TLJ tie-in)
  • TIE Silencer First Order, Modern Era (TLJ tie-in)

Wave XIV

  • Saw's Renegades Rebel, Classic Era (RO tie-in)
  • TIE Reaper Empire, Classic Era (RO tie-in)

So, the last three waves might be a good litmus test for what rotating waves might look like. Waves 12 & 13 released together.

Are you asking what a typical wave will look like once all current ships have been released as a 2.0 version?

I remember one of the guys from FFG (Andrew Navarro in the Coveneant Cast interview?) saying they have a very aggressive release schedule for the 2.0 expansions. No specifics were mentioned outside of what is already available for preorder (X, Y, TIE, TIE Adv, Fang, & Firespray,) so 6 ships. So that might clue us in: 2 ships of each faction. When they begin to bring in Resistance and First Order Conversion Kits, we'll likely see the OT waves take a back seat for a cycle.

It's all speculation at this point. Let's just wait and see what happens.

All game conversation with your opponent will need to be done in the voice of Nute Gunray and crew.

This, now that they have finally stopped being obtuse about card packs they absolutely can make ship upgrade packs, kind of like team packs in dice masters, sprinkled in during wave droughts. It would be the new aces packs. No ships just pilots and maybe things like crew upgrades, any new relevent tokens, stuff specific to the said ship. Mixed with floating points cost this seems like a cracker idea to me.

I think it comes out next week, lol.

"Roger Roger"

I guess they'll "theme" new releases and go with the 2-ship-cycle we're used to.

I fathom (going from the fact that they released each factions re-releases in pairs) that we'll get a wave of 2 Rebel ships, then 2 Imps, 2 Scum, etc. This also allows to go along with a new movie with one "protagonist" and one "antagonist" ship.

If I was FFG I would drop the concept of waves and just release a single new ship every 6-10 weeks. Steady flow of new content. Each faction ends up with 1-2 new ships per year.
