Dude in San Antonio was 3D printing these for a while, not sure if he still does it or not. Super handy little doodad, also does what you're looking at with option A:

Allright, who votes for design C

This may be the superior design, actually.

Even better, combined this with version B, but make version B work by adding a magnet inside the ruler and at the end of the holder peg.

And who votes for design C.2?

Well, it looks like ArmadaFix is gonna be offering a similar tool. My version has a longer peg, it’s actually not a multi tool but specifically designed to measure distances perpendicularly. The ones I just ordered 12 of for fab are a distance 1 and distance 2 sticks with a 55mm fin off the the top centered on the mid point of the distance stick. I suppose mine could mark ships too? Lol it’s got a 90 but the arc on the back of the fin is for aesthetic only, it won’t fit squads.

Based on that picture my version has a longer fin.

*shrug*

If there’s already one of these on the market I doubt ArmadaFix will move many. (Bummed I already put $ in to fab but w/e) I may still make version b for ranges.

another person suggested the peg on B be made of acrylic, in which case, it would be fairly sturdy. I certainly wouldn't provide lemons.

even acrylic breaks when some one steps on it. Maybe its just because I have steped on so many of my kids toys and heard lovely sound of plastic cracking beneath my feet that when I look at B I see something that my big feet will destroy. also looking at it A would be faster and cheaper to produce

Recreator Studios makes distance 1 markers with that design. He was handing out one to I think all the Armada players at Worlds.

I can second this, for I received one personally. I do really like the design, but hardly use it. Personal preference.

If you are planning to make them for use as ship markers too, you could put the little teeth into it so that it slots into the movement tool grooves.

I have a few markers like this that came with some rulers I bought. Very handy.

I use a man tool for marking like this. I have a speed-1 tool I use when it's a really hairy move that needs to track that ship's position precisely.

BINGO!

I don’t think I will. Firstly I don’t like taking other people’s ideas, especially when they’re unique. I got a look that their gear at recreators and it’s a quality piece. I’m not gonna be a **** and steal designs, I’ve had someone try that with my squad plates, I was pissed.

In earnest I’m hesitant to even proceed with a full set of the version A. Simple fact is I don’t own a laser cutter, I outsource my fab work. I’ll never have the same quality.

Bottom line:

I’ve ordered 12 distance 1 sticks and 12 distance 2 sticks. ArmadaFix will likely be offering them on their site. If they aren’t in demand, I’ll likely scrap the project.

besides, everyone knows my squad plates and acrylic ship tokens were my big “thing”.

It's completely unreasonable how jazzed I am about those ship tokens...

Also, sorry, didn't mean to come in and derail your sweet idea here. :(

lol it's all good.

Yeah, I have to get back on those and start taking orders.

Do you sell the print output or do you make a mold from the print and cast it in urethane or something?

For the plates? they're 3d printed

I figured they were, but do you sell the prints or are the prints used as a master of a mold?

I just sell the prints. I looked into molding them, it'd be much cheaper, but the quantities I get would make it so time consuming. It's not really worth the extra effort. Plus, I'm a bit limited on space.

If I ever get into molding, which seems unlikely at the time, it will likely only be in conjunction with someone like Mels, where I could mold a large model for a fraction of the price to FUD it. Something like that would be worth the extra effort.

On the new products that nobody is making for sale, front, I would love to see is acrylic ship ID tokens, with Aurebesh letters.h6QV6eW.jpg

I can look into it, but I think the issue here becomes the thickness of the raw acrylic. On my ship tokens it's okay because I lay a piece of foam or paper under the token to add thickness when needed but with a small tab like that inserting into those slots on squad and ship fins it's likely either going to be too thick or too thin.

I have some scrap materials, I'll see what happens.

Hadn't thought of that, hope luck is on your side then.

Okay, so here's how the prototype turned out. Better pictures due after this weekend when our local group uses them in play.

Enjoy.

I think ArmadaFix intends to post them on their ETSY on Monday or Tuesday
