STAR WARS FILMS Discussion Thread!

By player2072913, in X-Wing

Adding (unscientificly) people's rankings together, giving 9 points for 1st place down to 1 point for last, we have:

V > IV >> R1 > VI > VII > VIII > III >> II > I

TLJ is (unsurprisingly) the most controversial, followed by TFA. Rogue One also seems to be a bit of a mixed bag.

The least controversial are ANH and ESB, which rarely scored below 8.

Episode 3 is the most loved of the prequels by a way.

(1:43.5pts, 2:52pts, 3:86pts, R1:134pts, 4:170pts, 5:189pts, 6:120.5pts, 7:100.5pts, 8:94.5pts)

Ill update as we go

__________

After wading through that ****-show of a solo review thread, I thought it would be good to have a place to discuss the films as a whole. Basically let this thread be a safe space for salt and arguments about TLJ and the other films to keep that stuff away from the rest of the forum.

I'll start. How do you rate the SW films in relation to each other? I'd rate the films as so:

V > IV

>> VIII > R1 > VI > VII

>>Solo > III > I > II

(I didn't like solo that much, but maybe my opinion will change after multiple viewings)

Tell me about why I'm wrong, and how Rian Johnson threw SW off of a balcony.

Shouldn't this be in off topic?

Oh and what ships from the films that aren't yet in the game would you want to see.

Star wars was awesome up until the Ewoks. Then it declined when Lucas messed with originals and did not learn from his mistakes for then next three...then took a huge nose dive with the last two of the third trilogy.

Rouge One was good, but not great. TFA and TLJ are the worst. They make parts of the prequels look good.

I absolutely love star wars, but what's amazing to me is that a huge franchise with such staying power and cultural impact can have only 2 excellent films.

When you compare it to Star Trek, that track record suddenly looks not-so-bad. There have been more Trek movies with only one generally being considered great, and the worst Trek movies are just as bad as the worst Star Wars movies.

I'm not trying to open up a can of worms here, just pointing out that making great movies isn't easy, especially as the franchise gets older.

I currently rank them so:

V>IV>VII>R1>VI>VIII>III>II>1

With some exceptions for the prequel trilogy having some really great space battles and giving us the animated series.

I'm expecting Solo to slot in nicely between VI and III.

Ixidor, you have 2 VII.... ?

IV, V, VII, VI, VIII, R1, III, II

I really like this qualification. For me (ranking above) I’d rate VIII above VII if there was no Canto Bight.

I've said this a couple of times already so sorry to repeat myself but I really do think that VIII feels like two completely different movies were smashed awkwardly together, and one of those movies is a pretty good Star Wars movie and the other one is... something else entirely.

Thanks, fixed.

Shouldn't the rebels one?

I asked my brother for his ranking, because I was curious and he isn't a forum member. He is a few years older than I am. His response:

1) V

2) VI

3) VII

4) IV

5) VIII

6) R1

He refused out of principle to rank the prequels in the same list as the other movies. It took some cajoling, but I eventually got this out of him:

"The least terrible, if my arm was twisted and my life depended on the answer, would have to be Episode 1. Too much goes astray in 2 and compounds in 3."

EDIT: guys we have an emergency, my brother asked one of his employees and the answer given was II > I > IV > V > VI. He is on the phone with HR now to see if this is grounds for termination. Please send your thoughts and prayers to us in these trying times.

IV, R1, V, TFA, VI....

At this point I run out of differentiating factors. I like none of the prequels enough to watch repeatedly. Time is against TLJ in this case but on the 2nd watch, I knew it wouldn't break into the top 5. Time will tell if I prefer it to the prequels but I feel like it'll still just be prequel level but different.

I honestly really like TFA. I put it above RotJ simply because of impact. RotJ was overshadowed by the 1st 2 for years for me, couldn't say why, I was a child.

Really, though, that top 5 could be switched around for a bunch of different reasons. There's just the 'good' ones and the 'other' ones in my mind. Sometimes I'll get in the mood to watch one particular good one but I'll very rarely sit through an other....

My expectation on Solo is that it'll snuggle in behind RotJ. Or create a second smudgy tier with it and TFA, leaving a clear S Tier trio.

Yeah, I love R1.

That movie refuses to be ranked together with the rest it has gone Solo!

Quoting my self!! Or I have gone Rogue?!?

my preference: V, IV, R1, VI,VIII, VII(the margin between all of these is very very slim while the margin between the first group and the second is very very large), III, I, II.

Has anyone read the EP 1 novelization? I ask because it's actually a very good read and a darn good story, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the film suffers from bad editing and bad directing most of all. The pacing, especially in the first half, is horrendous. I feel it could have been on par with the original trilogy. But the execution was crap, so it's far from it.
