STAR WARS FILMS Discussion Thread!

By player2072913, in X-Wing

This thread seems like it needs yet another person stirring the pot with his view on the franchise. Here's my list.

** The Good **

V: Others have already explained the many reasons why TESB is the best.

VI: Ends the trilogy in the best way possible. The Ewoks aren't even that bad on a re-watch.

IV: It's cheesy but a classic for a reason. Had it not been the first, this movie would not be ranked so highly.

Rogue One: While the first couple acts have problems, the movie is enjoyable throughout and the Battle of Scarif is right up there with Endor.

III: Redeems the prequels. Anakin and Padme actually feel like a couple, and the plot is solid. And we finally see the Clone Wars in action.

VII: This took the universe in a direction I disagreed with, but I still loved TFA. It's a thrilling movie and introduces compelling new characters.

** The Bad **

I: Introducing Vader as an innocent child was a worse idea than Jar Jar. Ignoring that, this movie is at least enjoyable due to strong acting and visuals.

II: Anakin/Padme scenes make AOTC unbearable. Everything else is solid, though Dooku is a weak antagonist. I wish we had seen him in TPM so his turn to the dark side would mean something.

VIII: I have many problems with TLJ. Those problems have been discussed to death elsewhere. Hopefully Abrams can pull a ROTS with episode IX.

I hadn't realized my rank changed post VIII but it did. My Rank even surprised me...

Prior to VIII I would have put VII above III, having all 3 prequels behind everything as I am not a fan, AT ALL. I am 'meh' when it comes to III. If its on TV I would probably watch it if its in a good part, but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it. I and II could never been seen again and I would be okay with that. Since I've seen VIII, I am even more indifferent about the new sequel than I was before. I really didn't care to much for TFAs, I mean its okay if you know you are basically getting ANH, 2.0, but it really doesn't add anything to the story. In fact it subtracts from anything that was accomplished in the OT. The Rebels or the Resistance or whatever the **** you want to call them are in worst shape. Ok, I get it, you needed to reboot the franchise, but they pulled the plug and stuck it back in, instead of a simple CTRL + ALT + DELT. The new characters aren't all that well thought out. Finn should have been a mechanic or something in the FO, not a indoctrinated at a young age Storm trooper. Rey is of course too perfect, and we don't really get much Poe in VII. Kylo was the only interesting one to me, but his intimidation factor went out the window when an untrained opponent beat him.

After seeing VIII, I give even less of a s**t about these characters. Finn couldn't even sacrifice himself... which my God I wish he would have. Poe is a huge prick and just wholly unlikable. Rey has a little more depth to her, but still too perfect as a character. She should have joined Kylo... That would have been a movie. Phasma, what a joke. Rose... Forgettable. Hux comes off as an incompetent clown. Snoke, WTF? The list just goes on and on. I don't even have to talk about how they did Luke to not like these movies? That's a whole different can of worms. I am to the point where I don't even care to see IX. It kind of sucks, since VIII does have its moments. The interaction between Kylo and Rey, the throne room fight, Luke talking to Leia as a projection... But man, I've seen the movie once and I really just don't give a s**t whether I see it again. That just sucks...

I have a little hope for Solo. I thought Rogue One was awesome, so if Solo is half as good, I'll like it.
