Trying to Figure out a Rebel Bomber Fleet

By Ventorus, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Alright, so I just got into the game and really the reason I got in was the prospect of commanding all the little X-wings and stuff. So i'm trying to figure out how to build a rebel bomber list that isn't a Riekkan Aces list. So this is what I've got so far and I kind of like this one:

Points: 392/400

Objectives:

Precision Strike

Fighter Ambush

Superior Positions

Ships:

(Flagship) Command Pelta

- Dodonna

- Fighter Control Teams

- Expanded Hanger Bays

Nebulon-B

- Yavaris

- Raymus

AFMII-B

- Flight Controllers

- Expanded Hanger Bays

GR-75 Medium Transports

- Toryn Farr

- BCC

- Bright Hope

Squadrons:

- Biggs

- 3 X-wings

- Norra

- 3 B-Wings

I want to try this without Intel, goal being to wipe out any opposing squadrons then just bomb away with everything.

I also was looking at switching the Bomber wing into:

- Norra

- Gold Squadron

- 2 x Scurggs

That way everything is a big faster and has more hull to go around. Plus the Grit on the Scurggs would be interesting because I have no Intel, not a complete substitute, but a little work around if I need it.

So, do I need to make wholesale changes? Should I just try it out and see how it goes? I wish I could still use more flotillas in a Tournament legal build, but oh well. Lol

If your goal is to kill squadrons then bomb, you might try to find a way to get Wedge, Dutch, and/or Ten Numb in your list. All are great against squadrons and can get in bombing runs after. The rest of your list and objectives look pretty good.

Welcome to the game, and good job on your list! You seem to have a solid grasp of things, so I take it you know the flotilla cap is 2 (and it's just making everything fit that hinders the inclusion of another GR-75.) The Expanded Hangar Bays should probably go for Boosted Comms. You already have more than enough carriers to command 8 squadrons. It now becomes a priority to keep your speed 2, flagship Pelta a little farther from the fight if possible. ? Jan is hugely important, both for Intel and providing survivability; even dropping an X or B-wing to make room is smart if needed, because she's worth her weight in gold. Bright Hope could go if you still want a good bid; it's definitely a solid choice here, but it often doesn't end up making the difference between an intact transport vs debris. Swapping Raymus for a Flight Commander + Hondo somewhere else will usually allow you to kill things with Yavaris starting from a safer distance. Although you only gain that third squad for 2 rounds (Hondo + a banked token,) you probably won't be facing already-in-range targets for much longer than that anyway, and you get more choice over which squads you activate and when. Not necessarily better, just an alternate option. Hope this helps!

@The Jabbawookie gave some great advice that I’m going to add to:

I like having Biggs and some other escorts when I have some squadrons that I really need to protect. In your case, you currently don’t really have that. Sure, you don’t want to lose your B-Wings, but they only cost 1 point more than the X-Wings. With Biggs in there, you are spending a lot of points to protect not that many points.

If you add Jan Ors, then the Escort squadrons start to make more sense. And the Jan / Biggs / X-Wings is a really strong Escort wing (though replacing X-Wings with YT-1300s is the way I often go, just for the greater hull values).

But another way to go is to just drop all of the escorts, add in 2 generic HWKs (and keep them way to the back until you absolutely need their Intel), and fill out your fleet with Y-Wings (including Gold Squadron if you have it).

You could also add in some interceptor squadrons, like Tycho / Shara, if you have a few extra points.

Cool, thanks for all the advice guys!

Here is the modified list I ended up with:

Points: 392/400

Objectives:

Precision Strike

Hyperspace Assault

Superior Positions

Ships:

(Flagship) Command Pelta

- Dodonna

- Fighter Control Teams

- Boosted Comms

- Fighter Coordination Team

Nebulon-B

- Yavaris

- Flight Commander

AFMII-B

- Hondo Ohnaka

- Boosted Comms

GR-75 Medium Transports

- Toryn Farr

- BCC

Squadrons:

- Biggs

- Wedge

- X-wing

- Jan Ors

- Ten Numb

- 2 B-Wings

- Gold Squadron

I think i'll try this list out next time I can get a game, seems like it will be fun!

Add Bright Hope to the GR-75. You have 8 points to spend, and you don’t need a bid. Any fleet that wants to go first is going to out-bid you anyway, and most good fleets that are happy to go second are equally happy going first. Yours falls into this second group.

For that matter, add Ahsoka and All Fighters Follow Me! to the Pelta.

@The Jabbawookie and @stonestokes, everything they have said is ace. Im just going to put my little bit in aswell.

Here are a list of some ships that do well with some particular upgrades as carriers:
MC80 Command Cruiser (Please for the love of god never use Independance) -
Adar Talon, Boosted Comms, Fighter Coordination Team
MC75 Armored Cruiser - Adar Talon, Flight Controllers, Boosted Comms
Assault Frigate Mark II B - Adar Talon, Flight Controllers, Boosted Comms
Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (Highly Recommended) - Flight Commander or Raymus Antilles and Yavaris
MC80 Star Cruiser (Not Highly Recommended at all) - Raymus Antilles, Flight Controllers, Fighter Coordination Teams and Liberty
Pelta-class Command Ship - Adar Talon, Fighter Coordination Team, All Fighters Follow Me!, Boosted Comms, Phoenix Home and Raymus Antilles
GR-75 Medium Transports - Bombing Command Center, add Toryn Farr if using Nym and keep her close to him to fish for Blue Crits
GR-75 Medium Transports (Not a Carrier, but mainly to support other carriers with Squadron Tokens) - Comms Net

Here are some Air Superiority combinations:
Intercept and Snipe:

Shara Bey, 3 A-Wings and 1 E-Wing (65)

Tank and Spank:

Jan Ors, 2 YT-1300 and Ten Numb (64)

Dog Fighters and Secondary Bombers:

Jan Ors, Biggs Darklighter and 2 X-Wings (64)

Here are some Bombing combinations:
Light Bombers:

Norra Wexley, Gold Squadron and 4 Y-Wings (69)

[12 damage potential with Norra allowing crits to auto remove a shield meaning cant be affected by defense tokens, including contain unless they have damage control officer]

[Adar Talon and Yavaris 20 damage potential]

Heavy Bombers:

Captain Nym and 3 Scurrg H-6 Bombers (69)

[12 damage potential with Captain Nym's Blue Crits you can choose one enemy defense token to discard]

[Using Adar Talon and Yavaris Nym can attack three times in a round, so damage postential with Nym attacking three times and 2 Scurrgs attacking twice and the remaining Scurrg once you have a 24 damage potential with Nym giving a potential to discard up to 3 defense tokens in a turn]

Gunships:

Keyan Farlander and 3 B-Wings (62)

[13 damage potential with Keyan Farlander re-rolling both black dice if hitting hull and not shields]

[Adar Talon and Yavaris 27 damage potential]

Rogue Bombers:

Dash Rendar and 3 Lancer-class Pursuit Craft

[8 damage potential]

[Adar Talon and Yavaris 16 damage potential]

i do not recommend, more for bombers supporting a Gunboat fleet

So I hope this helps you out, this is not a must do, but more of a guide for what sort of things work well . This is just a few combinations, there is alot of other things that work well together.

I made 2nd at my Regionals using Jan Ors, x2 YT-1300, Ten Numb, x1 A-Wing, Norra Wexley and x3 B-Wings. Since then it has been changed to Jan Ors, x2 YT-1300, Ten Numb, Nym and x3 Scurrg H-6 Bombers.

Good luck mate, the fleet looks good.
