Yes, the Vassal skirmish module was updated a few days ago.

Does anyone have details about the thing they use to communicate while playing? What its called, what requirements it has etc.
There are various ways to talk to make things easier (instead of writing to the Vassal console). Boardwars.eu meeting place uses Discord voice channels. Skype, Google hangouts, etc. can work depending on the players.
Most people use discord. You can download the app to your phone and join the Boardwars server and use their voice channels.

As long as you have head phones with a mic (like the ones that come with an iPhone), yep ? . That’s what I do.
And it was good! I played with someone who was new to IA, so I helped him learn the ropes of Vassal a little. Cool guy.
