If FFG cared about you collection of X-wings they would give you more than two dials in the conversion kit.

They could still have plans to include those pilots in future epic expansions or the like. I guess we'll find out on friday.

Indeed. Much like the way every ship has a bullseye, quarters and front and rear marked out; because even if it does nothing now, another friendly or enemy ability can key off it later.

It's not hard to imagine a future ability wanting to lock onto an obstacle or a friendly (heck, if M9-G8 is still around, that might be there to begin with).
