Gunner and Crew slots

GUNBOAT Will almost certainly use configurations for the old titles, they are literally different configurations of weapons on the ship.

This is my assumption as well, though the devs have only talked about the configurations in reference to the silly flappy bits on terrorist ships.

Where are my flappy GUNBOATS??!!!

I'm hoping there are a few more crew categories than just "gunners" and "not gunners." In my random pre-2.0 thoughts on how I might change the game, I was considering at least Gunners, Copilots, and Technicians as possible categories, but there could certainly be more. Having such a huge list of crew cards build up over time just made the crew slot more and more potentially valuable over time and thus harder to balance in 1.0, and just splitting it into two groups doesn't necessarily feel like it makes a big enough difference if one of those groups is still just the majority of the cards. Plus having a few more categories helps to give each ship its own flavor as far as how their crew operates.

There's also some potential in the idea of having a ship having a single crew slot that for example accepts either a copilot or technician, but they still only get one.

I wonder. If BTL-a4 isn’t a title anymore, will we have a Y-Wing specific mod to lock the turret either forward or backward?

The BTL-A4 was technically the Longprobe variation, so there's a chance of having a configuration or modification for the Y-Wing into the BTL-A4 that locks the turret either forward or backward, removes the gunner slot, and either adds a system slot, or provides the Jam action. It wouldn't get the old "fire twice" ability, but it would now match the lore a bit better.

Granted, like most of my speculation, chances are they won't do this ;)

The new Y-Wing is the BTL-A4.

BTL-A4 is the single seat Y-wing, which is the one used in the original trilogy.

BTL-A4 LP is the Longprobe.

BTL-S3 is the pilot+gunner variant.

I could have sworn I saw the name listed as BTL-S3... guess that's what I get for going off of memory instead of checking!

Ah, well. Another idea bites the dust before it even leaves the ground.

BTL-B is the CW bomber version.

I believe the TC video mentioned they wanted 'gunners' and 'co-pilots' to feel different. I think the Y-wing build in the same video almost confirms that they are separate slots, but I guess we'll find out.

If they are, I'd like to see ships like the Ghost and Falcon to have 1 gunner and one crew, and then ships like the Hounds Tooth to just be crew etc.

It does make me wonder if the TIE phantom will get a gunner slot as well.

The Phantom's other crewman was a systems officer/EWO backseater as I understand it, though.

Similarly, the firespray's pew-pew is the pilot's guns, regardless of which way it's firing (see Attack of the clones). By comparison, the falcon's main armament is the turret aimed by someone in the turret well, so I'd expect at least one of the current crew slots to become a gunner slot.

Firespray cockpit has multiple seats in AOTC as painfully remembered and reminded by Li’l Boba shouting ‘get em dad! Fire!!!!!’ No wonder he was into Wookiee hair braids and disintegrations when he grew up.

so the pilot can control the guns, but there are separate stations for others including ships operations and weapons officer. The Firespray was meant to be a patrol ship with a small (not one-man) crew.

The Falcon’s guns (in legends) could be set to fire by the pilot but presumedly either locked forward (as Han was chasing down the Sentry TIE in ANH, intent on blowing it away) or firing in arc at extreme loss of accuracy.

But what about the Lambda with the original "silly flappy bits." How much you wanna bet that it comes with a configuration that allows it similar sit and spin functionality as the U-wing.

I bet it won't.

We have both Titles which seem to be back for mostly unique ships and the new "Configuration", which includes stuff like Pivot Wing, Servomotor S-foils, etc, any ship which has common configurations but multiples of them - I suspect if they carry over, elements like TIE/x7 vs TIE/D or the two StarWing configurations would be covered here. TIE Shuttle could also be seen as a configuration - it's got a pretty good mechanical outline which just adds utility, not necessarily is a "fix". Cost reducing stuff like Chaardan, SV MK II and Renegade will probably be lost.

Chaardan and Renegade are probably gone, but I suspect that the SV MkII will live on. It's how the StarViper gets its curved barrel roll. It seems logical to keep that as a configuration for player choice, instead of baking that directly into the default chassis.
