Scum Core Set 2nd Edition

By Varyag, in X-Wing

The core set is required, but it is a bad deal for Scum only players. They could have made the core set $10 more and included a unique Protectorate fighter, Z-95 Headhunter, or Y-Wing. Just a thought for FFG.

Scum only players are getting hosed slightly but I'm guessing they are a pretty small slice of the pie. Probably be able to sell the TIE fighters and X-wing pieces for a sizable percentage of your purchase price though.

No different than how 1.0 worked

On the plus side, we get to steal the Firespray from every Imperial only players and the Scurrg from every Rebel only players, muhahah!

(Not sure what that looks like)

Runewars does this with an "Essentials Pack". I'm really surprised they haven't done that with Xwing yet ( -- or is that one of the missing SKUs -- ?? )

The Pink Panther is Snagglepuss after he gave up his dreams of being an actor and turned to a life of crime. Welcome to Scum and Villainy, Pink!

And snaggletooth is what happens after that. It’s a hard knock life.

Glitterstim is a **** of a drug.

I mostly play scum. It's lame that I'm suppose to buy the 2.0 coreset. I am boycotting it.

Will make sure to get a 2.0 damage deck as those will be available because of the alt-art ones peoples will be getting. Thought it was time for new templates, so just got some with the fancy new lines.

We're fine with it. Just further justification for stealing goods, selling them at inflated prices, and getting your younglings hooked on glitterstim.

Wow, this thread went off the rails even faster than normal.

The game designer said his favorite ship to fly hasn't been revealed yet and that the future looks bright. I can only imagine that it would be scum. After all Solo is on the horizon.

So..... You're "boycotting" the set by bumming a deck from somebody, tossing the savings to a 3rd party acrylic maker, and are still playing the game. Good for you. Asmodee hears your protest.

Isn’t there going to be a collector’s edition damage deck? The damage deck, and conversion box, is pretty much the only thing an existing Scum player would need.

That said, I would not be surprised to see another Most Wanted type box set in the future for Scum.

And lest we not forget all the StarViper Autothruster expansion packs Imperial players ‘had’ to buy.

@Varyag you do have a point. FFG have been clear that they want people to play a faction without having to buy ships from other factions to get particular cards. It’s part of the “quality of life” improvements for 2.0. Then the first product they release is essential for all players and includes a bunch of stuff irrelevant for three of the five factions. The saving grace is the core set remains a reasonable price; cheaper than the all cardboard conversion kits. Imperial players particularly will do well out of the core set (two TIE/LN expansion packs would cost me the same as a core set), which makes up for the Imperial conversion kit having less in it than the Scum and Rebel kits.

I would. What is the point in such a set? Scum is a full faction from the outset in 2.0 and Most Wanted is essentially a scum conversion kit for 1.0.

I do think that there will be some more crossovers, I mean there is a ship that is now both Imperial/Rebel and tons of scum/rebel but no Imperial/Scum. Maybe we will get some Imperial Bounty Hunters.

I do agree that it should have been better if it were say 2 Z-95s and a TIE advanced or maybe a Y-wing, but the name of the game is X-wing miniatures. Thus the core set has to have an X-wing in it.

X-wing is a two player game (essentially) so it makes the most sense that the two original Factions be represented in the core set, especially the two most iconic ships in SW. it is unfortunate that returning players who stuck to Scum only will have to pay 40 bucks for three ships they will not use just to get templates and a damage deck before they even get the conversion kit. those kits could have included (specialized) damage decks and templates easily as well as a pamphlet explaining the changes but oh well.

I really wish they would make starter boxes for each faction that have a couple ships from along with super cool templates and tokens that match said faction.

Maybe a card expansion only with all the infamous bounty hunters from the scene with Darth Vader with them in the bridge? Could a way to seduce scum players into the dark side.

It's annoying for imperial and rebel players as well. When the game started, a friend and I just split two core sets. If we do that again, in including all the items purchased since then, I'll end up with 16 TIE fighters and he'll have 9 X-wings. It's a little silly.

Maybe, The Scum conversion comes with a DD and templates? or they release a Scum Core for 30 bucks that has only one ship (Starviper?)?
