New Unit Type: Operative

By Jman444, in Star Wars: Legion

Don't plan on seeing any of the Rogue One characters in here soon or Rebels. FFG has said this game takes place during the height of the Galactic Civil War. Rogue One is far gone by this point. And we don't exactly know what part the Ghost crew had after the battle of Scarif except for the battle of Endor.

Just don't get your hopes up when you don't see Rogue One/Rebels characters in a year or two. I'd rather have the Galactic Civil War settled and then expand slowly into the other series.

As for Boba helping the scum in Legends, you're not going to see a hire Boba card for the Rebellion because Disney won't allow it. It's non-canon and Disney won't let FFG do that. Personally I'm happy about that. Just gotta ride it out.

Pretty soon we will have enough bounty hunters, special forces, etc to home-brew your own Scum faction. Just put a commander token on Boba Fett and roll with your Operatives' command cards. Throw in a stolen AT-ST, re-brand your troopers as mercenaries or pirates, and you're golden.

Didn't the Galactic Civil War technically start when the Death Star plans were stolen? Rogue One isn't terribly far removed from that.

Key part is the height or climax. Not the beginning.

One could argue that the carnival crane game played during Rogue One WAS the height of the Galactic Civil War!

The Rebellion was barely formed then. Usually a height is the middle, which would be shortly after the Battle of Hoth.

Wonder if they will still "take a commander slot" though.

Boba is easily Commander level lethal. This could spawn into a list being 4 "commanders" in the future potentially.

I was thinking the same thing. I expect they will fall into the same category. You can have 2 commanders or 1 commander and 1 Operative. Or something along those line. That Operatives give command cards seems to back this.

the article states its 2 and 2, so operatives are their own section in the Force organization chart.

"Every Star Wars: Legion army can have up to two operatives, letting you pair these powerful units with one or two commanders. "

Would be interesting if they had operatives that could go on either faction, like some bounty hunters.

Yep, the expansion also comes with its own order token with the new operative rank icon.

course i guess that isnt really a problem because if you actually did field 2 CO and 2 Ops would be around 500ish pts for 4 models.

Not R2, unless they have some sort of droid expansion. Could see Lando there. Imperials will get all the bounty hunters (IG, Bossk, 4-LOM and Zuckuss).

I could see them doing a C3P0 and R2D2 pack where you can take one or the other or both as a single operative choice.

Just give me Kyle Katarn!

Love it! More iconic characters == a more a Star Wars feeling game. So pumped. Plus the sculpt on Boba Fett is awesome. I can't wait to paint him up.

Ehh, I think you're reading into it way too much. I think they meant that as clarification for only being in original trilogy territory to prevent people from thinking that it would touch into the prequels or sequels. Rogue one is clearly in the GCW as it happens immediately before A New Hope. Of which they've already done fleet troopers from.

I'm sure Rebels/ Rogue One stuff will be seen in this game before long. Obviously after they do as much as they can from GCW, but I just dont think there's enough from the OT (the movies themselves) to go off of for a couple years, they're gonna have to pull from Legends/EU and/or Rogue One and Rebels relatively quickly. Plus they are gold mines for units- plenty of great characters on both sides that can fill commander or operative slots, various vehicles and infantry units like Death troopers and shore troopers...

@AintNoPoser-- I'm not sure where exactly they said "the height of the Galactic Civil War", but like @Jman444 I suspect you're reading into it too much. They almost certainly are using "the height" as a more flavorful turn of phrase than simply "during". The Legion product page says "...join the unsung battles of the Galactic Civil War..." which sounds pretty broad to me. And even if the designers are specifically working in "the height" of the war, their view of what that means could very well be different from your view or mine.

In any case, I'm not gonna stop hoping for Rogue One characters! ?

Still need a minimum of 3 corps. But that would be interesting, running 3 bare corps + 2 commanders + 2 operatives.

Gather enough big name heroes in your list and just call it the "Avengers."

Then when they come to fight each other on the board I guess we can call it Galactic "Civil War" :)

Empire's gonna be really good with these next expansions. Hang in there rebels!

I think everyone is ignoring "up to two" operatives, and one or two commanders. I read that as three commanders, two commanders with an operative, and one commander with two operatives. Otherwise why not make these "support" units? I think there will be three commander/operative slots, with one commander required.

I think they’re saying the force organization chart will look like this:

Commander, 1-2

Operative, 0-2

So a total of 4 potential commanders + operatives. I don’t quite see how you’re getting 3 slots out of their description.

Im not sure I follow. You are required to have one commander in your army, but you can add an extra to have a maximum of 2. You can also have up to two operatives, so either none, 1, or 2 of them.

The commander and operative units are separate units entirely. Even though operatives will have command cards, those cards will only work for that operative and not give any command tokens to units.
