It's been at least a week since the last Punisher thread

By Commander Kaine, in X-Wing

So, what are your hopes and dreams for the sexiest ship (It is the sexiest ship, your argument is flawed, you are wrong, why don't you read my points, you are misrepresenting my case, see? I thought as much. Isn't it nicer to agree?) for 2.0?

I'm thinking that the charge mechanic is a great option for allowing the ship to spend extra "munitions" on an attack, representing a salvo of ordnance, without actually having to shoot twice.

The lack of upgrade bar also means they can finally get their Talent slots, and also with the removal of problematic epts, this isn't even an issue at all.

I'm fairly sure in a white reload action.

If anything, they should be able to get Lock --> Focus (or the other way around) because they are awesome. They are all about shooting.

Front reinforce arc is very much possible!

They will likely get a ship ability as well! Woohoo.

Could it be really? The time we have been ALL waiting for? A viable Punisher...

It's going to get reload for sure, hopefully white because that's its thing (Its red for the Y-Wing IIRC). I'd love to see it have linked Lock-> Boost. A faster dial but hard of turning like the Defender minus the K-Turn would be really cool too.

The bomber has it in red too, so let's hope for white

White reload, special ability of being able to double the charges of all equipped weapons.

So I was thinking about it today, and ordnance seems to be very strong in 2.0. Is it possible that the Punisher will be... good?

Maybe even... great?

I don't dare to hope... Don't talk such sweet dreams into my ears, for my heart will break if it isn't true :(

Free reinforce action for it so it lives long enough to need to reload.

A good Punisher, dare we dream?

All we know for certain is that the Punisher is moving up to a Medium base, but I would love to see that beast of a ship get some proper love.

I wonder what they are going to do with Redline. How do you track multiple locks when you only have one matching lock token?

You only need the word "Punisher" in the thread title to pique my interest so... sign me up!

"You may treat a lock on any enemy ship as a lock on any other"

Basically, just say he locks onto everything at once.

Boost>Barrel Roll,

arc-dodging Punisher meta incoming

Give the ship a crew slot or possibly a gunner slot (but call it something related to ordnance).

Also please give it a linked action to boost. That thing needs some help in the speed department.

Multiple locks don't seem to do anything, none of the revealed ordnance requires you to spend it. Maybe just get a free lock against someone in your arc, in the beginning of the combat phase?

I'd love that. :D

I suppose they could also give you multiple tokens with the same number to handle situations like this. Then you could just put 'your' target lock onto more than one ship.

Spend one energy during the activation phase, perform a target lock. Regens one energy per turn.

Deathfire's ability make it seem like he could launch bombs...

Maybe every bomb can be placed forward (launch) or backward (drop).

That would be a fair balancing act for bombs, since they cannot be dropped in the action phase anymore.

Proton Torp looks strong. It’s basically a Harpoon without the condition.

However cards like Long Range Scanners are pretty unlikely to exist. That card makes the Gunboat lists work now. Deadeye is the other way low PS ships had of getting ordiance off in the initial engagement. We know Deadeye is now Instinctive Aim and will only work on Force Sensitive Pilots.

All of this isn’t great for low PS ordinance carriers, which is possibly quite interesting. The Aces might be more expensive than the genetics but they make up for it by actually being able to use ordiance with more ease.

Of course this doesnt bode that well for the Punisher, at least not the generics. It also doesn’t help that the Empire have 3 ships that basically do the same thing. Trying to give each of them distinctive flavour will be quite hard.

I like the idea of Boost -> Reload. I think Focus -> Target Lock (or the reverse) is way outside what FFG want to do with this version of the game.

I’m interested to see what happens for them. The medium base will be welcome.

That's not the word you are looking for, and you spelled it wrong.

ORDNANCE

Won't be hard to do distinct flavors

Bombers: cheap and basic

Gunboat: SLAM (white reload)

Punisher: it takes on goddamn fortified installations that star destroyers can't reach

It is a tractor with explosives for blades and should play as suchv

Llike this?

Never been very fond of this ship... in 1.0 it sort of looks like an orange on a toothpick.

But on a medium base I'll be marginally less un-fond of it.

If LRS is dead, then put all of your low LS Bombers, Punishers, and Gunboats in storage. You won't need them. LRS NEEDS to be in this game. It was a fix for a problem with the game design, not a particular ship. As long as TL happen at your activation, LRS is needed. I feel it was a very good but balanced card. If there's no LRS, FFG is wasting their time designing ships that will never see play. Luckily, they have not mentioned it as being dead (while GC, PTL, VI have all been specifically mentioned), so I am holding out hope. It really needs to stay in the game for some ships to function.
