Old dial upgrade Compatibility

By Good991, in X-Wing

Hey,

Does anyone know if the old dial upgrade is compatible with the new 2.0 dials?

Thanks for your help

Yes it is.

I've seen yes answers in several places but they never elaborate. Is there an interview or something from FFG that confirms it that people are referencing?

I don't think it has been specifically elaborated but I base a "yes" answer on a couple of things.

I think that these: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing/products/rebel-maneuver-dial-upgrade-kit/

look exactly the same as these: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing-second-edition/products/rebel-alliance-maneuver-dial-upgrade-kit/

Strictly from a sensible use of existing assets point of view that these items would be the same makes a great deal of sense. As noted in other discussions dies for making parts like these are not cheap. I then look at this pic:

It is hard for me to set aside the idea that they changed the standard cardboard dial to be more like the accessories where you can see the entire dial. So I haven't seen it specifically spelled out that you'll be able to bring your fancy dial covers into 2nd Ed. It is however given the photos we have and the general sense that they want us to bring as much of our 1st Ed. stuff with us to 2nd Ed. a reasonable assumption that the fancy dial covers you have will be usable with the new 2nd Ed. dials.

This boggles the mind. I think FFG is a fantastic company. They have great product and support.

But I'm surprised none of the 2.0 launch notifications mentioned the dials' size and compatibility. It is this vague thing. If the 1.0 dial upgrades work with 2.0 dials, come out and say that. Be clear.

If the 1.0 dial upgrades don't work with the new dials, well, you may think you have heard wailing and gnashing of teeth, but trust me: the wailing of players who will need to buy new dial upgrades will be deafening.

Well at least the price didn't increase for them. That's a small comfort.

It is probably something that should be added to the 2nd Ed. FAQ. If I had a bunch of these painted up to match re-painted ships, it would be high on my own list of need to know information.

They announced during the live stream that the plastic 1.0 dial upgrades do in fact support the 2.0 cardboard

That's well and good but it isn't the same as that information being in one of the 2nd edition articles or being mentioned on the product page or such. This bit comes to mind:

“But the plans were on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

I know, right, mentioning it at the launch of the product? I can't believe they'd make the information so hard to find!

There are probably so many of the dial upgrades already printed and in storage, it would be a waste of money not to make the new dials compatible with them.
