Speculation: First Order and Resistance Conversion Kits

But they’re not likely to get a lot of new content until the new cartoon. Then there will be tons of new FO and Resistance options

Is that what they're doing now that they ended Rebels? I am totally fine with a cartoon of that.

I really hope they don't do that transport or shuttle. The transport is especially hideous and hard to even look at. If Wookieepedia can be trusted it generally wasn't used as a startfighter either. I can't imagine having any fun flying that thing around the board.

I don't necessarily disagree, however they are the currently unrepresented canon, sequel-era ships with with significant amounts of screentime.

If the Resistance and First Order are going to be expanded as stand alone factions, they're the obvious frontrunners.

I haven't been current with any of the latest Star Wars vidja games, but are there any new Sequel Trilogy ships that have been introduced there that weren't in the films?

The only real mainstream one is Battlefront II, which really just has the T-70, Poe's T-70, the Falcon, the TIE/fo and the Silencer.

It did however canonize FFG's Imperial Raider, so there is that.

That is the only redeeming quality of the game.

I would imagine there's something new for the two factions in the comics, no?

I'd tend to agree. Hopefully the popularity of the space combat mode will convince EA/Disney to give us more specialised games in that particular area (*cough* X-Wing *cough* Elite: Dangerous), and less "one game to rule them all" efforts like Battlefront tries to do.

Yup, they brought Filoni over to do a pre-TFA Resistance/FO story.

I can see the conversion kit possibly having A-Wings (since {1} A-Wings show up in TLJ {2} A-Wing Models actually exist), but nothing else seems that likely to me. I don't think they'd put dials and templates in for ships which don't otherwise exist. That said, there were FO/Bombers and some sort of TIE Interceptor in promotional art, holograms, but they're never shown on screen. I can see these maybe, but it seems less likely than an A-Wing, IMHO.

I think there's nearly no chance of the Rebel A-Wing being a Resistance ship too. Why do that when they can just release a brand new Resistance A-Wing instead? ;)

Also we have the full blown model designation now on all the cards, the model from TLJ is RZ2 and the models from Rebels/RoTJ is RZ1

Technically, based on what we were told, FFG doing the raider made it canon. What battlefront did was show us that the story group is actually doing its job (to some extent)

The reason I think it could be (not necessarily, but maybe), is that there are 4 First Order ships, but only 3 Resistance. I could totally see a new A-Wing, though.

FFG had better release a single upgrade pack that includes both the First Order and Resistance, unless they want to price their individual upgrade kits at less than the price of a single new ship. Even a combined pack should be less than half the price of the other conversion kits, because 2nd edition has the following to convert:

  • 3 Resistance ships (2 large, 1 small)
  • 4 First Order ships (1 large, 1 medium*, 2 small)
  • 17 Rebel ships (3 large, 3 medium, 11 small)
  • 16 Scum ships (3 large, 5 medium, 7 small)
  • 13 Imperial ships (2 large, 1 medium, 10 small)

This means that you will see the following cardboard bases using the revealed kits as precedence:

  • 2x Bomber, 2x YT-1300, 3x T-70 (possibly 4x T-70 instead)
  • 4x TIE/FO, 2x TIE/SF, 2x TIE/VN, 2x Upsilon (2x Large, 2x Medium*, 6x Small*)

Anyway, I still think this should have been the First Order Interceptor:

Word on the forums is they're pricing it 30US. I'd also be fine with a pairing, although there will be people who cry bloody murder because they only want X faction and not Y. I am hoping that by the time they reincorporate the Third Era ships, that they'll have a lot of new card content to incorporate as well.

For $30 USD, they had better be paired. I've not said that FFG is doing a cash grab with the transition, but I will absolutely rescind that if the First Order and Resistance are two boxes for $30 each.

And with the transitional wave already revealed, there is no reason to have a conversion for any unrevealed ships that might come in such a future installment.

Any chance we get "old" ships as well?

Just catching up... one question springs to mind.

If they are doing a resculpt and small base TIE Silencer, how will the current one work out in the conversion? Will it still be playable?

The Resistance A-wing has to be a different sculpt - they have longer engines.

What about Poe's supercharged T-70?

One thing they could be doing is adding more pilots to the ships, which would help flesh out the factions.

Given there is a gap in the SKUs between the 2.0 Core and the first conversion kit, I would not be terribly surprised to see either a Resitance era, or even a Clone War era core coming soon. Or they are just future proofing...

Technically? I don't believe anything will work without the conversion kit.

Without buying a new silencer, I (hoping here) expect that you'll still be able to fly the bigger than life version of it on a small base. You may need to jerry rig the peg a bit. :(

I don’t see why not. The conversion kit is about cards and cardboard. Based and pegs look unchanged, so the old Silencer model should be perfectly fine.

Agreed on the Resistance A-Wing. The RZ-2 has several features that differ from the RZ-1, which I think calls for a whole new model.

I would think we’ll get Poe’s supercharged T-70 through the upgrades. A mod or tech for SLAM, possible reworks of Poe’s and/or BB-8’s ability, and whatever they are doing to the base t-70.

I think another Sequel era core won't come out until Episode IX.

I'm kinda thinking that the booster Poe uses in the start of TLJ. Maybe "At the start of your activation phase, before movement, spend one energy and perform a speed 4 or 5 straight maneuver, then take 1 (or maybe 2) stress."

It comes across as too 'crude' to do a slam maneuver, but could be used to jump into the midst of things unexpectedly.

Possibly. The idea of making it SLAM was trying to fit something new into known mechanics. But something akin to your suggestion can fit the booster well enough.
