Speculation: First Order and Resistance Conversion Kits

By Duciris, in X-Wing

What are we expecting out of First Order and Resistance Conversion Kits? They can't be the same price or size as the other 3. I'm spotting them as each only missing:

First Order

  • 2x Upsilon-class Shuttle (Large)
  • 2x TIE Silencer (Large)
  • 2x TIE/sf Fighter (Small)
  • 4x TIE/fo Fighter (Small)

The Resistance

  • 2x B/SF-17 Resistance Bomber (Large)
  • 2x YT-1300 Millennium Falcon (Large)
  • 2/3x T-70 X-Wing (Small)

Also, Wave XIII (TIE Silencer & Resistance Bomber) just released in December. Will those ships, and all of the above, be unfieldable at launch?

FFG has already said that those kits will be cheaper ($30 I believe) but yes, those ships won’t immediately be usuable in 2.0 as it currently stands.

They've also confirmed that the TIE Silencer will be small base, and that there will be a resculpt with a smaller-scaled model.

Edit: I expect the First Order/Resistance factions will be bulked up and evened out with the following:

Kuat Systems Engineering RZ-2 A-Wing - cheap, light, fast starfighter, small base
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/RZ-2_A-wing_starfighter

Slayn & Korpil Customized Resistance Transport - mid-priced, tough crew carrier, medium base
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Resistance_transport
- possibly with deployable
Slayn & Korpil Customized Light Shuttle - cheap, light, fast crew carrier, small base
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Resistance_transport_pod

Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems Xi-class Light Shuttle - cheap, light, fast crew carrier, medium base

Which means the one we have now will be BETTER!

Like going in reverse of Disney Star Wars, where bigger = better? I suspect a smaller Silencer will be a good thing. I thus far refused to shell out for a small ship in a large box - a smaller model will come in a blister, and that's a good thing.

If it is 30 buck, I expect them them to go for the maximum amount of each ships in a 100 point list. Would also make more sens with the smaller ship-pool. So something like:

First Order

  • 3x Upsilon-class Shuttle (Large)
  • 3x TIE Silencer (Small)
  • 4x TIE/sf Fighter (Small)
  • 6x TIE/fo Fighter (Small)

The Resistance

  • 4x B/SF-17 Resistance Bomber (Large)
  • 3x YT-1300 Millennium Falcon (Large)
  • 4x T-70 X-Wing (Small)

didn't they say somewhere that they're redoing the silencer model to be smaller, and acknowledged the current model is out of scale?

I keep hearing that they're redoing the model, but can't find an actual source.

I hope the wave also introduces some other FO and Resistance ships...

FO Bomber
Resistance A-Wing

...because a faction without these options will be fairly inflexible.

Ideally a Resistance Shuttle or crew transport that's not the Falcon too.

Also wondering - will there be a TFA starter set? If FO and Resistance are independent factions now, makes sense to have a start set tied to them. Donno how that'll work for marketing though.

Yes FFG has said the Silencer is getting a smaller sculpt.

Actually, due to galactic inflation, they're raising the standard from 100 to 200pts. That said, everything is just doubling in price, so it's still the same quantity - they're just opening up a half-point option.

I know I wrote that jokingly, but they are actually doing that.

I've shelled out for 2 and it was totally worth it. If the 2.0 version is in a blister and it's abilities are as awesome as the 1.0 version then I could probably be convinced to buy more. Especially since I have a feeling I'm going to end up being an FO main.

I hope BB8 still gives pre-movement Barrel rolls.

I want to say that the Silencer will be Medium sized base. That's the impression that I got and have no real justification for it.

The Resistance doesn't have any medium based ships, nor do either faction have any turreted ships (not counting the Falcon) light bombers like the Imperial TIE bomber, Scurrg, or Rebel Y-wing. Nor are there any ships with cannons (Tractor Beam, Ion, Flechette, etc.).

I don't want the FO to have near identical ships to the Empire. " Now with a tech slot and one more shield! "

Seeing as how there are so few ships for either two factions, my guess is that they will be pulling designs for ships from the new Fall show, Star Wars: Resistance. We'll see...

Star Wars Resistance, New Animated Series, Set for Fall TV ...

I'm pretty sure that they said it'll be small.

I'm going to make an unfounded claim, but my gut tells me the conversion kits for the FO and Resistance will contain cardboard squares.

The current sculpt is just wrong. Compare the engines with the movie version, and the wings are too long as well. I'm really glad they are fixing it.

I'm just glad that I didn't buy a second one yet. most likely will grab a 2nd edition to fly with my biggie 1st edition one cause Kylo has to try to compensate for something . :-D

My big beautiful resistance bomber would like a word

My theory is that they can help fill out the Resistance and FO conversion kits with some ships that are Rebel or Empire, that you'll get cardboard parts for to be used in the Resistance or FO. I could see parts for 3 Resistence A-Wing, and 2 Resistence B-Wing, similar but slightly different from their Rebel counterparts. I could see parts for 3 FO TIE Interceptors and 2 FO TIE Bombers, similar but slightly different from their Empire counterparts. This will allow them to also seel new sculpts and paint jobs for these ships, but you could still use the one's you already have from 1.0. FFG is happy to sell more stuff, fans are happy that they can use stuff they already have, it's a win-win (expept for those that will still complain that the conversion kit will be overpriced).

silencer large base makes no sense.

Not only is it currently a small base, but medium bases are a thing now anyway.

It was said on the stream by one of the designers of 2.0 the day after announcement on the website.

Edit: If I remember correctly one of the guys asked if the Silencer would be Medium base because of its size and the designer said the model will be smaller and it will be small base.

I suspect the conversion kit will cover just the ships we have so far. They will probably try and drop another ship for each faction if they can.

But they’re not likely to get a lot of new content until the new cartoon. Then there will be tons of new FO and Resistance options

I really hope they don't do that transport or shuttle. The transport is especially hideous and hard to even look at. If Wookieepedia can be trusted it generally wasn't used as a startfighter either. I can't imagine having any fun flying that thing around the board.

It was on the Twitch live stream during the first day of Worlds where they showcased 2.0 in "challenge matches" against the developers (Edit: ninja'd by @Skitchx , nice work). I believe it was during this same stream where they also let slip that even though the two conversion kits will be cheaper, there will be "more in each kit," which probably means @Duskwalker 's numbers may be pretty close.

I think the conversion kit for the resistance is particularly difficult. There is a chance we may either a new starter set - with Poe’s Black One x-wing, or we may get a box set similar to the Most Wanted. I think a conversion kit may only cover 3 x-wings, 1 falcon, 1 bomber.

A new starter set, I feel, would not be a good idea, which leads me to think they are exploring a new pack for releases, as noted above, similar to the Most Wanted.
