Rules you always forget

By Sybreed, in Star Wars: Armada

Let's play a game! What rules in Armada do you always forget about (Dras you don't have to participate in this one)

I'll start!

1. Grit!

I always, always forget about Grit and I stopped counting how many times I could have moved a squadron instead of leaving it there.

2. Heavy! (without intel)

I know what heavy does, I just forget that it exists outside of intel. Then again, I stopped counting the number of times I had squadrons surrounded by ennemy bombers and I forgot I could move them.

No exactly a rule but...I brought Hondo to the tournament to see how he works. Forgot to use him all day...

Honestly, I forget that Escort still works when you Intel with Dengar or Jan to bomb a ship. Usually I can move and shoot, but on squad phase, it gets annoying.

I think folks forget Grit when I'm playing it and try to lock down Jonas with a single squad....lol

When I build a fleet with Dodonna it's usually because he's cheap and the points work, not with his ability in mind. So I have a really hard time remembering to use his ability when I have him.

Wait what now? Escort doesn't stop you from attacking a ship.

hmmm, if there's Intel you're right.

I forget my own STM a solid 50% of the time.

The timing on Shields to Maximum, for sure. Invariably I've already flipped the dial and have ruler in hand before I remember....oh yeah, the shields....

I have moved to stacking tokens on top of my dials as a reminder.

That's a great idea.. there has been the occasion where I've been so excited to shoot something that I forgot to flip a dial... that's an embarrassing one to admit.

We were just discussing topic this in our local group. It was pointed out that Intel Officer should be triggered as soon as you roll your attack pool; we'd all gotten into the habit of exhausting it later, after modifying dice.

There was also the question of whether Redirect should technically involve declaring the adjacent hull zone to be used, for interactions like APT's & Projector Misalignment

I think this more relevant with HIEs around, too.

HIEs being an exhaust effect, the attacker has the advantage in deciding whether or not to use it on this attack after the defender declares whether or not to redirect/contain.

I've done that too. I also have a habit of flipping a Concentrate Fire dial, but forgetting to add the extra die in. Then of course I come up one damage short of killing the target.

And really can't recommend enough using tokens with STM!. I put a stack on the STM! card, then when I trigger it I move the tokens to the top of the dial. After the dial is flipped they go back on the card.

sorry, this is what happens when trying to talk on the phone at work while responding to forum posts. I meant attacking other squads without escort. Jeez, I really need to slow down and read the drivel I type....

hahaha.. yeah..

I'm about 50/50 on the drivel to useful forum content I post so the bar is set pretty low for me :)

Yes, it should.

RRG 4 DEFENSE TOKENS said:

Defense tokens can be spent by the defender during the “Spend Defense Tokens” step of an attack to produce the effects described below:

• Redirect : The defender chooses one of its hull zones adjacent to the defending hull zone. When the defender suffers damage from this attack, it may suffer any amount of damage on the chosen zone’s shields (up to the shields remaining on that zone) before it must suffer the remaining damage on the defending hull zone.

So the resolution of redirect is a little weird in that it's a two-stage resolution:

1.) During "Spend Defense Tokens" , you choose to spend the token and choose the hull zone to which you will be redirecting.

2.) When you suffer damage , you choose how much to take on that hull zone, and take it there.

I don't forget that one.. I remember to forget it. That's different.

Also, why is that a rule?

Prob is, its always a different thing. But its still „always“.

Intel Officer. You need to declare it before you modify your dice.

The extended version of this that I recommend, is to put reminder tokens on top of your command dials if there are things you need to do when activating the ship (such as spend an engineering token).

I use more than one if there's more things to remember.

Between stacking on the round counter (for AFFM! And Han, etc) and stacking on the command dials, I rarely forget effects that trigger on those events any more.

Remembering to fire with my ship before moving though...? I still forget that shitery far too often! :D

Flak. I always forget it.

Toryn Farr rerolls with ships. I never forget the squadrons, but always forget the ships.

I often forget Lando when I really need him. But I'm getting better.

I sometimes forget about XI-7s.

I also us the STM trick with the tokens. It's really the only way.

Not so much me, but on the MOTF channel we get quoted a lot saying the inside turn is illegal, when its not so long as the ship doesnt overlap tje tool!
