good point about the Y-Wing. I'm guessing it's because it's a turret and spins, that way it doesn't block the hatch (even tho the E-Wing gun swings out of the way for ease of entry/exit).

Sweet! I was just working on a three E-Wing list and pretty much came up with the same thing. I am gonna try FAA on the generics and am debating between PTL or Expertise on Etahn.

3. Yeah, it's an E-Wing. As @SEApocalypse said, the E-Wing is ridiculously over-engineered. It's amazing fighter when it works, but incredibly complex and expensive.

Rebels is canon and it is very clear that there is an atmosphere in space. It's cold and unbreathable to humans, but there is some sort of ether that is present.
I think the biggest issue is that the e-wing almost looks like a plausable fighter craft, right up until they bolt that stupid cannon to the windshield. It has an uncanny valley aspect to it where it gets so close, but then fails hard. Move that one cannon to the belly (or just remove it), and it would be an attractive design.
This design is far sexier.
The E-Wing's top gun is stupid. It would fry the window. The Y-Wing has a metal roof below the ion cannons.

And no thanks with that fan art. Looks like a crappy Z-95 to me. Maybe even a prototype Z-95, and not the evolution of an X-Wing.

Unless the Y-Wing ever, ya know, fires any direction besides directly forward, in which case it's firing over the window, and would have the same problems.
And let's not forget that in Star Wars, the windows are supposed to be metal as well. Should be more than durable enough to take the blast from a cannon, especially if was designed with that in mind.

This is by far my favorite version. It looks more of a successor to an A-Wing than an X-Wing. Design wise it just looks "lighter" than the T-65 and T-70. I would rather see more A-Wing and less X-Wing in the design.
Here's my take on the E-wing. The original version has its... charm , but I hope they do better with it in 2.0

I am not sure if you are aware of it. But having guns on the wing tips is ... rather impractical compared to center line guns. So much for plausible ?
