Back to our roots

By SgtDurandal, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

Hey all,

It's time to get back to basics. We're done with serious tournament play for the foreseeable future. It's now time for The Durandal Initiative to get back to our roots. Random fleets played just for fun and giggles. Join us Thursday night as we slap fight with plastic star ships and also probably talk a bit about SgtDurandal's experiences at Worlds. All commentators, backseat admirals and hecklers welcome.

I can build anything I want and don't have to practice with a set fleet? I might actually see something besides Sloane and an ISD? This is great!

Gotta find something to do to fill in the time between events

After the match we decided to pull the live feed because we were.. how to put it.. incomprehensibly slow. But @SgtDurandal saddled up his shiny new metaphorical electronic horse and trimmed a bunch to make a product more fit for the public. This was my first time using HH en masse and there were some things I didn't think through, but I think I was able to compensate and the fleet worked pretty well. SgtDurandal, for his part, was just happy to not be using Sloane for once.

What's seems to becoming our regular "Armada Night" The Durandal Initiative is happy to bring you yet another LIVE Stream. Join us tomorrow night around 8:30 pm MST.

Hello all - Tonight we'll be trying out commanders that were not represented at Worlds this year. So bring your sympathy cards. Tonight is the night of forgotten and discarded Commanders.

Well this was a bit of an ugly match, my brain was just not in it due to a variety of life things, and we made some pretty beginner mistakes. It didn't help that we both brought extremely unfamiliar fleets with multiple interactions and timing things to remember, but I had a blast flying some new stuff in a much less "serious" fleet. @SgtDurandal was very forgiving and worked with me in my times of weakness :) The final outcome didn't look too close, but the match itself was actually very tight and could have easily gone either way.

Apologies for the blatant rule violations. I think we ended up addressing most of them (shout out to Nate and Troy who always keep us honest). Just goes to show you how much attention and focus the game requires to play correctly, much less play well!

durandal343 is back from his short family vacation to the Twin Cities. Time to get our game on! Join us this evening around 8:30 pm MST.

Ok! We'll be streaming LIVE tomorrow night around 8:30 pm MST. We'd love to hear from anyone interested in dropping in and giving us grief on our slow play and/or mistakes. Or just drop in and chat about the state of Armada while we push the plastic around the table for everyone's enjoyment. :)

I just finished watching this match. I enjoyed watching the big ship game! I actually like the Leia concept; it's a shame it didn't work in this game.

The overhead camera is great for analyzing deployment and positions of ships.

Thanks for watching and the feedback! I agree, the Leia concept is pretty cool. I think @durandal343 would do much better with it a second time around. AND remembering how QBTs work would help as well. ?

Remembering how SAd and QBTs work would've resulted in a pretty different game.

We're all about the hype train here!

Didn't even think to post the start time in the post! That's why posting in the middle of the night might be sub-optimal.

Well that could've gone better. I think my plan was flawed from the beginning. I think spreading out my Arq early and going for the flanking would have had a better result but even had I done that I think this fleet is going to struggle a lot versus a dedicated bomber fleet. Back to the drawing board!

Once again into the breach!

We'll be streaming LIVE tonight around 830 pm MST. I'll be trying to redeem myself after the total shellacking @durandal343 gave me last time.

We will be streaming a friendly match live Wed 8/29 @ 730ish MST with a special Guest. Justin will be joining the stream for the first time! He's been playing Armada casually since Wave 1. Looking forward to having him on the stream. Stop by to watch and welcome the new honorary member of The Durandal Initiative!

Unfortunately we're going to have to cancel tonight's stream. Justin got called into work last min. We'll shoot for another stream next week. Sorry everyone.

We were lucky enough to be able to reschedule our match for tonight around 8:30 pm MST . The Durandal Initiative is happy to be hosting a special guest for tonight's match. Justin has been playing casually since Wave 1 and was a great encouragement to us when we first started. Really looking forward to this match!
