New HWK?

By SDCC, in X-Wing

And of course, there is the old "A-wing problem"

Regarding A-wings - two-seater versions of those, go all the way back to the Droids TV series - it's not a new thing.

Legends authors eventually retconned them to being R-22s - a design the A-Wing was developed from, rather than the A-Wing itself.

Newcanon has gone with "A-Wing is R-22 that has been modified to have less armour and shielding, and higher speed - but the ships start out as R-22s"

I thought the r-22 was dropped from nucanon altogether, since the Rebels Phoenix Squadron was shown to use RZ-1s. But then I don’t keep up with ‘official’ decrees anymore. Like for the past 20 years really.

The RZ-1 is now just the R-22 with modifications - based on TLJ: Incredible Cross Sections.

Oh. Ok. Makes sense, finally.

Again, no need to worry.

*Sigh* wasn't worrying. Still not going to the in-game model for scale.

Apparently, while sometimes referred to as RZ-1s, the ships seen in Rebels are basically unmodified R-22s:

A non-modified A-wing used during the early part of the rebellion

A-wings were modified for use by the Alliance to favor raw speed over power or protection. The Alliance's modified A-wings, dubbed RZ-1s, [15] consisted of a stock model stripped of its shields, armor, and heavy weapons.

The RZ-1 was based off the original R-22 prototype developed by Kuat as a replacement for the Republic's Aethersprite starfighter. Rejected by the Empire, Rebel cells acquired several R-22s and stripped them down to boost the fighter's speed and acceleration to counter the Empire's new TIE/IN interceptor .

So do we know any specs on the r-22 other than slow and weak enough to blow up on a regular basis?

Also, as a replacement for the Delta-7 it would seem redundant next to the Alpha-3 V-wing, so no wonder the Empire didn’t order any.

Still waiting for the R-41 Starchaser

Well no, just saying that it's all very consistent in Dark Forces II.

It really is no wonder. Tell you what though, when The Rebellion stripped it down to **** near half it's size... Impressive stuff they pulled.
