New HWK?

By SDCC, in X-Wing

The footages is from my favorite first-person-shooter of all time: Dark Forces. And it's sequel.

<shrugs> maybe. Still doesn't look quiiiiiiite right to my eye.

Fair enough. I’m also looking at it through the lense of this is an artist’s interpretation, so I don’t hold it to schematics standards.

I think we can all agree that, big or small, it's a really cool ship.

I'd just like it to be less limited.

Absolutely.

I mean, this was based on a ship that a duo of Rebel operatives used to get into and out of some tight situations. But the dial it currently has sure as heck don’t show it.

THIS!

The Crow should be zipping about! I know Alex Davey has expressed regret at it getting 1 red before. It can definitely go up without being silly. That gun sure is big enough.

They confirmed during the Hyperspace Report Q&A that it is getting 2 red dice.

I forgot about the Dark Side Ending. Kyle and HWK for Galactic Empire!

Yeah, and he goes straight Dark Side in Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight: Mystery of the Sith (which was either the third game or and expansion to the second) and had to be brought back to the Light by freakin' Mara Jade!

Except there isn't a scale issue at all. The ship is small.

As to the windows.. they could work if the ship engines pivoted and it flew similar to a firespray. But as there are hud goggles, it works for me.

(Ok, no scale issue... maybe "size topic" ? Replying to the question asked in the OP.)

I just think it looks about 50-55 feet long in the comics. It has a hatch with a walk out ramp. Big roomy cockpit.

Small base is cool because it's a smaller target on the play mat and easier to navigate... so I'm cool with it not changing.

I think the Kanan comic kinda over-sized it a bit. And by a bit, I mean considerably. It really was not that big or roomy-looking in Dark Forces (the first one, at least).

Wouldn't be the first time a previously-EU ship finally entered 'canon' as a result of a size change.

See: YV-666 in Clone Wars

For all the video game footage showing the smaller size, that is only "Legends" material. The only canon representation of the HWK-290 is that Kanan comic, which argues for the larger size.

Oh yeah, the YV-666 was massive in that.

Actually it got scaled down - the EU YV-666 was huuuuuge . I mean, it had a hangar for a Z-95 in it. The version that appeared in Clone Wars is the size of the ship we have in X-Wing - it's a LOT smaller.

What this tells me is that Roark should be a scum pilot.

yes, that's the way I remember it going, not the other way around.

The artwork in the illustrated Dark Forces novels, makes it seem roomy. as did some of the narrative. That may be where the idea of the ship having bunks, first came from.

Plus, considering they used a scaled down model of the Raven’s Claw (Kyle’s second ship) for gameplay that couldn’t accommodate the cutscene demensions inside or out in later games, I don’t actually have much confidence of the accuracy of the in-game model of the Crow from Dark Forces.

Nope. Dark Forces is Gospel, the original trilogy bows in reverence to it.

Story and action? Agreed! Scaling of things? Not so much.

It should be noted the dark forces novels were written by a complete hack.

But remember.

It isn't perspective.

She's a little bird.

I don't understand why you guys take any numbers about anything in SW seriously...

None of it makes sense.

Crew numbers are all over the place. Sometimes a ship needs hundreds of crew, but a similar sized vessel is fine with 30 guys. There is no apparent rule that governs this.

Layouts don't work. The ships don't fit in their hulls.

The old numbers measuring the energy levels of weapons is getting close to 40k levels of crap.

And of course, there is the old "A-wing problem"

just don't get hanged up on stuff like that, because it literally never ends, and even if by some miracle everything gets retconned, people will still be pissed. Not even mentioning that the status quo will last only a few months max, because I guarantee it that a new source of any ship will get it "wrong".

Just go with your headcanon and stop arguing. The materials are contradictory... Even if they weren't, the measurements don't stand up to scrutiny and questions like "How is THAT supposed to fit in there?".

Cutscenes I’m fine with. It’s the gameplay model that I question as a standard for scale.

I don't think anyone is arguing. In fact this must be one of the most pleasant discussions there has been about this type of subject.

Seeing those cutscenes...**** I love Jedi Knight. Leaving so SOON?!

Intriguing that it's only other canon appearance (well, Wookiepdia counts Star Wars Commander even if that's a garbage source), the HWK-290 had incendiary bombs. It doesn't seem like the best ship for a bomb upgrade but that could make it a little more interesting.

So does LFL, in fairness - I believe that game may have been where the official designation "TIE Reaper" first appeared.

I loved Jedi Academy, too.

"I sense a disturbance in the force..."

"You always sense a disturbance in the force."

Kyle to Luke.

I agree in principle, but I can't get past the A-Wing....
