Last night a group of us were discussing 2.0 and it was asked which factions the HWK would be in. We agreed that it should stay Rebel/Scum, but then something else came up.

Shouldn't it be a lot bigger?

Wookiepedia has it at 29m, whilst an X-Wing is 12.5. That's quite the difference.

I wonder if FFG will take the chance to make it what it should be - A fast medium base ship.

IIRC this is one of the ships that the Wook just has completely the wrong dimensions for.

I have a conspiracy theory that FFG originally designed the HWK as a large based ship. It's weird awful dial makes a lot more sense for a large base, and it was released opposite the Lambda.

So they design the thing and show it to LFL who say "Woah, hold up, who told you it was that size? It's meant to be way smaller!"

Then they switch it to a small base to make LFL happy but don't change the dial and we get what we're given.

I believe old legends sources had it as much larger, but FFG work closely enough with LFL that you can take the size we see as gospel.

The HWK and A-wing have LFL's official dimensions. The only ship to be wildly off scale is the TIE silencer and who knows what happened there.

Just did a bit more Googling (my fault for trusting one source), and elsewhere it's stated to be 16.5m.

That makes more sense to me, as I've played enough Jedi Knight to have seen the model next to people. It's not a big cargo ship; it's more for carrying people.

If the U-Wing is medium base I still feel like this one should be.

Blame Wizards of the Coast for any size discrepancy. They FUBAR’d the size and wookiepedia is a very unreliable source, but sadly I don't think the HWK-290 is in the official databank.

Yeah, my co-caster J-bot has been harping on that for a while. They won't redo the mini at this point.

I would rebuy this if they made it a tad bigger with a bit more detail on it.

Guys, am I the only one who only expect "New Canon Only" ships to be re-released? Sure, we will get the conversion but I don't believe there will be new expansion pack for HWK, Scyk or Agressor...

Pretty much, yes. FFG won't want newer players who only have 2e content to be perennially behind everyone who started in 1e in terms of variety.

Pretty sure the devs have already stated that all existing ships will be re-released, asap. Re-release doesn't necesarily mean they'll be seeing a sculpt change or repaint though, just that they'll be getting a 2nd edition expansion pack.

Yes, you are the only person who thinks that FFG will redesign these old ships and then refuse to sell them in X-Wing Second Edition.

Gah, 18 weeks until I can put a 2.0 hwk on the table. Can we play shoots and ladders on the calendar and skip June-Aug?

Looking forward to at least an average dial and 3 dice mobile arc. And being too expensive to fly ☹ ️

Because the TIE Aggressor and Gunboat were canon when they were released?

In the Rebel Conversion spread there is a dial that I think could only come from the HWK. It has a 1 reverse and a 3K now. Also the 1 straight is blue so you could just go back and forth hovering.

Sadly, aside from the reverse, the dial matches the Sheathipede’s. It doesn’t totally discount it, but there is also more fluff to support the Sheathipede getting a reverse over the HWK.

As for the discrepancy of reported size for the HWK, I hold the view that an easy explanation is to give the longer, more freighter like size to the FFG invented HWK-1000, leaving the 290 as is. Size wise, anyway.

Good thing that, thanks to the Kanan comic, the HWK-290 IS canon.

Intriguing that it's only other canon appearance (well, Wookiepdia counts Star Wars Commander even if that's a garbage source), the HWK-290 had incendiary bombs. It doesn't seem like the best ship for a bomb upgrade but that could make it a little more interesting.

In Edge of Empire, FFG's RPG, they resolve this by having 2 ships, the smaller HWK 270, and a larger HWK 1000 that's easilly mistaken for it's smaller, more famous cousen.

Ahh I forgot about that ship. I have not played in about a year since I hated the state of the game but 2.0 has reignited my interest.

FFG has stated all current ships will be in 2.0. That doesnt mean they will see any new pilots or anything though, just that they exist and their stats/costs converted to 2.0.
Also the HWK is in the list of ships for rebel/scum conversions fyi.
