X-Wing 1.0, what would you like to see in the future?

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

I am putting together goals for a website I am trying to put together for the continuation of 1.0. So what do you want out of 1.0?

Here is what I have thus far:

-Community Mod as a separate section.
-Last FFG Rules & FAQ rules section.
-Future ship down grades to 1.0 to the best of my ability
-My personal "trying to balance section and expansions, but still very close to the FFG rules."

Anything else you would like to see for the future of 1.0.

This is going to be a slow moving project, I have a full time job, and other projects I am working on. But I am getting started on it today.

So any suggestions?

I’d like to see adjustable points, adjustable slots, bullseye arcs on every ship, rules tweaking that helps the game as a whole and last but not least, the ability to upgrade an entire faction worth of content for the same price as the ghost

Slots and points will be adjustable per errata version.

I would like to see it be allowed to die the peaceful death it deserves, it had a good run.

The Force ghost of Darth Meanie will return just this once to say that the attitude in this thread is despicable.

XWM 1.0 can still exist, and must exist for Epic players for the indefinite future.

Thank you for you efforts @Jadotch.

I think you have covered most of what I would want to see.

A uniform way to treat 2.0 retrogrades for Epic play would be mostly helpful.

The entire main forum is 2.0, save this one thread. He's not whining. He is helping an orphaned community. If you don't have something constructive to say, type your idiocy somewhere else.

Missions from expansion packs

Preserved "last, best" timing chart

Squad build templates (even if PDFs) from tournaments

Cut Tie Punisher points to 10 and allow it to equip all titles from other ships (haha)

Jokes man... Just jokes.

Anyway, your exact sentiment is what all of us "2.0ers" have felt from all of the negative 2.0 posts this forum has been bombarded with this last week.

was about to say "2.0" but people beat me to it

honestly, if you just adapt all the 2.0 as much as possible (lack of proper bases means you simply won't be the same ability to introduce mobile arc/reinforce mechanics etc) it'll be all the better

A good effort here; don't be discouraged :D

Id like to see example lists that are fun to play with and against - they might not be optimised to win win win (shock)

  1. example set ups on how to play the best games with non-gamers (simple and fun)
  2. Fun lists for expeirenced players (death match)
  3. draft squad building rules
  4. Kessel run style racing maps and example builds
  5. missions (original ideas and linked to movies)
  6. HOTAC and other single player / coop modes or rules

As someone who has continued to play older editions of games in other games, having a community site where players can discuss things is an awesome resource. The Last Rules, FAQ & Errata is a great section to have. People will need to look that up from time to time. A community forum or section for people to continue discussing the game, homerules and balance changes that they have made for the older edition as well as conversions of new material into the old game is useful as well.

You should ask the community manager to create a Legacy subforum for 1.0 specific topics.

Would you intend to implement some of the 2.0 balances, such as no VI/Adaptability, TLT, Harps, limit Regen, failed actions mean you lose the action, turret arcs and similar?

I love 1.0 still, but some things really needed to change or be eliminated, hence 2.0. The bones of 1.0 are still good.

If I had no way of moving on to 2.0, I would want a "1.5" version of the game if someone with more talent and time than me created something like that.

------------------------------------------------

Whatever you decide, I would avoid asking the community to decide for you--it is your project after all--and surely you're aware of how divisive people can be.

You should do some support for the Objectives format they ran at Krayt Cup.

That is part of the intention, but it will be a different "flavor" than the official FFG rules.

Also, I am going to move forward, but I am just putting feelers out there.

FAQ!

No more of this fat turret synergy bull sheet

I'd like to see support continue for heroes of the Aturi cluster, it would undoubtably be an enormous ( and largely unnecessary) pain to port over to 2.0

Wow, I think this is a great idea. I personally will be making the switch but what a great resource for those who would prefer not too.

The only thing 1.0 ever needed... balance.

A matchup between a squad of T-65s vs a squad of TIE Fighters should have a 50/50 chance of winning for each side (assuming similar levels of player skill), and everything else in the game should be balanced accordingly.

Why would converting new 2.0 content to work with 1.0 HotAC be easier or more important than making a 2.0 HotAC?

As someone who is jumping feet first into 2.0 and not looking back, I still want to wish you all the best with this endeavor! May the force be with you, my 1.0 friends!

Because other than a few balance issues with TLT and bomblet, Aturi cluster doesn't really have a problem. Not to mention redesigning all the AI cards and imperial stats would be a pain. I'm not actually fussed about the new content being brought over, I just meant there are a few bits to v1 that need polishing, I don't see much need for v2. The beer and pretzels side of 1.0 has never really been a problem.

@Frostweasel : Thanks for the explanation! I gotcha. I'd also like to see 1.0 HotAC further refined. I agree that it's a great system.

I do think that a XW2-compatible HotAC-like system and campaigns would probably be nice for both future players without XW1 components, and everyone who wants more HotAC! There's a lot of potential with the AI concept to expand well beyond the currently supported ships, and to create new campaigns, game objectives, and game types. HotAC was truly a ground-breaker, and I'd love to see (or even contribute) to future versions and spin-offs.

completely agreed. If you don't want to play 2.0, I would like to help you still be able to play 1.0

More campaigns are never a bad thing. I think that maintaining the 1.0 version means making all 2.0 ships backwards compatible (as @Jadotch is doin) as well as addressing the common balance issues.

@Jadotch for the sake of my locals not converting, I would like to see an actual FAQ to address the more common rules questions. No errata, just clarification.
