2.0 Can't Come Fast Enough and Your Last 1.0 Game

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

Does anyone else feel like all the energy has been sucked out of 1.0? I don't really have any desire to list build, whereas before I could do it all day. I'm "meh" about playing. 1.0 is fun, but the last competitive game I played everything that was actually in the game was broken to one degree or another:

1 - Bombs flung out the front.

2 - Jostero shooting in the activation phase with a freaking harpoon.

3 - Dash with a 4 dice turret.

4 - Chasing the un-killable and regening Poe for 45 minutes with three ships.

5 - Winning on time because that was the smart play.

What was your last 1.0 game like?

Actually I played a 200 point game on a 4x4 mat and had fun with the options available; my last 100/6 was a loss to Ghost/Fenn.

My boy, 1.0 was running on fumes long before the 2.0 announcement

I know I personally was about to sell a MASSIVE portion of my collection as it was largely useless in standard games against turreted bull

Good thing I procrastinated till the 2.0 announcement :o

anyway, my groups probably only playing to test out 1.5 stuff. Can't play the reaper yet, but everyone is proxying Saw's

for me, that means twotubes low and Norra

good fun, actually. Just remember you NEED advanced sensors. **** thing is too clunky otherwise

Three of us traveled from Tucson to the 505th Squadron Championship in Albuquerque. The other two guys in my car were going to Worlds and needed to take the event seriously. I was just going to try for the top-4 prizes. It was a very 1.0 meta we were running into that Hangar Bay event. I had StressBunker, Phoenix Regional Winner Alex had Nym Miranda. Now top-16 Worlds player Chris had Ghost Fenn. These were not "fun" lists. These were efficient destroyers of fun.

I lost my first game vs Miranda Nym. All was fine until he boxed me into a corner with Cluster Mines and i flew off the map trying not to automatically die.

100-0 versus a guy running a 54-point Kylo Shuttle who should have been able to have more fun, but just got stressed to **** by Strezra.

100-0 versus a guy running defenders. Strezra for the win. no actions for ships that survived the joust. yay!

a tight win over a guy who was already in the cut (i got paired up) so he brought his "fun" list of RAC-Whisper instead of his Nym Miranda. 12-stress Whisper eventually just flew off the board when he realized he would never get another shot and wanted to save 15 minutes of our lives. yay, we didn't have to play X-Wing!

Rematch against the same guy in the cut. He brings the Nym Miranda list and gets the upper hand with about 20 minutes to play. My 2-hull, 0-shield, shooting-second Miranda SLAMs for twenty minutes to go to time and win the 2-dice vs 2-dice final salvo! fun!

then in the top 4 i actually played for fun. I had achieved my top-4 prize and was playing a guy from my car and he needed the next-game practice more than I did. Switched to my Soontir Fel meme list, had a blast, lost in 30 minutes.

Not for me. I genuinely like the game. I still have the 1.0 itch. I'm sure 2.0 will be fine, too, but I still love 1.0.

I think the brokenness of 1.0 is greatly overstated. I don't play with scrubs, either.

Nah, X-wing is fun either way. I'm playing jank all the way until the 2.0 release, including the last big 1.0 tournament, US Nationals at NOVA.

Well there's always Epic. The missions and campaigns are pretty amusing, if you haven't tried them, and those don't seem like they are moving to 2nd edition. At least, not anytime soon.

Funny. Last time I played 1.0 was a HotAC-style campaign, and it also had bombs barfed all over the place - by the Punishers I was flying as the bad guys! It was super fun. Looking forward to our next installment of that campaign tonight.

But yeah, as far as actual X-Wing goes, I'm pretty done. I don't want to have to see all those annoying little upgrade cards, all those ugly dials, those ugly pilot cards, those ugly tokens, or any of that other competitive garbage you mentioned.

Cannot wait for 2.0!

Yeah, i’ll be playing 1.0 up to and past 2.0’s release. While I like the changes I’m seeing for the new addition, there are still gonna be some mechanics, characters, and lists that I’ll want to come back to from time to time.

I wasn't enjoying 1.0 and contemplating a big break, but my friends were playing, so I persisted ...

Last game was my imperials vs scum. I had a full health Inquisitor with prockets get into range 1 of an enemy ship. Inquisitor has target lock, focus & evade. I flew one of my other ships to force his kimogila fighter, Dalan Oberos with VI so PS 9, to bump into mine - so no actions or tokens for him. Looking good except .... my Inquisitor is in the bullseye of Dalan, so free target lock for Dalan, who fires torp at Inqy, guidance chips for 4 hits, bad defence dice & cant spend tokens, dead Inqy. One shotted before I can fire prockets.

Yeh Im scrub for getting in the in bullseye of a kimogila. But this is a casual games night not a tourny, and this is not fun.
Then a few days later 2.0 is announced. My next game will be September

I was flying Vader/Boba with Proxy Krennic. Vader shoots (Harpoon, ideally), lights up the target for my Expertise/Harpoon Boba Fett. My opponent had PTL/K4/Gyros Asajj, and Manaroo with Expertise and Dengar.

Manaroo bumps the first two turns of the engagement, still has full double mods. My Boba, despite bumping the second round of the engagment, still gets a TL. Boba rolls no evades period (and no paint when he had a focus), dies in one Asajj attack and two Manaroo (she snuck in the "all damage face up" crit on the first attack). I mean. I shouldn't say anything, since I had Imperial Boba with full TL/Focus mods without having to take actions to get it myself. But some stuff like Manaroo 1-hard into Barrel Roll with Full mods on a turret?

Bring on the 2.0.

Anyhow, I'm tempted to commit to only flying control IG-88s until second edition.

I’m just flying 1.0 with as much 2.0 rules and cards as I can insert.

Bombs flung out the front.

Is this mechanic going away in 2.0? Is it a problem from a game-play or thematic standpoint?

Asking because I just didn't know that it was a contentious issue.

My friends and I have just rolled back to a fuzzy wave III (wave III ships, select upgrades and pilots outside that) and are implementing changes as we can/ new developments come out. New barrel roll makes me sad btw.

First night of custom rules league - first week is PS 5 cap, each following week is capped at +/- 1d6, with a roll of a 6 meaning we play some off the wall special game like Mario kart. So first game I’m flying 4x Mangler Gunboats vs Guri, Sunny Bounder and Drea Renthal. Was one of the most glorious games I’ve ever played, and that’s vs a TLT carrier and essentially a PTL ace.

no sir

Deathfire, peaked at from the trailer, drops or launches a "device" right before he's removed from the table

launch means we're still getting foward-bombs

honestly, it's not a problem. Used to be when you could Nym --> genius --> launch, arguably still irritating at ps 10. but with bombs dropping before any dials are revealed, I think they'll be fine

My last 1.0 game is a long way off. With the last expansion wave, they are fixing the namesake ship class. What a crock.

I like a lot of what I’ve seen from second edition and see no reason it can’t be incorporated into first edition, even in home brew games. Upgrades getting charge tokens, Force points being allocated to players at the start of the game to influence the battle, and linking abilities at the cost of stress tokens.

I know it will be hard to find opponents but first edition still has a lot of life left in it, and in my opinion could have been fixed without requiring $200-250 of purchases to transition over.

Last game I cared about competitively is on stream. People watched me stop caring as Nym chucked proton bombs at PS10. I really didn't put much effort in the remaining game following and haven't since.

Outside tournaments I still enjoy the game but the stuff out there is ugly and I haven't the stomach for it.

It's not going away, but the new Systems Phase means everyone knows where the bombs are when they move, instead of the various shenanigans available to high-PS ships that can choose whether to drop, launch, or move-and-genius after seeing everyone else's move. We're not even going to get into what coordinated barrel rolls or boosts do to this mess.

Last game I played was with a friend and his 7 year old son. He played vader, the kid Luke and I played duchess for 30pts each. No special rules, just engage whomever you want. At one point we teamed up against vader since we were on burning hulls and he still had a shield left, but easier said than done.

Man did we have fun. Couldn't finish it due to the table being needed for dinner, but we all had so much fun outlying each other.

I'm looking forward to 2.0. But I am totally happy playing the "classic" X-Wing game until then, since it's core is a thing of pure beauty.

I just played a game with 2x Knave squadron E-wings (because I had never flown them and wanted to try before 2.0 came) both with fire control system and flight assist astromech.

OMG where have these ships been all my life..... they just kicked total ***. (flight assist on ps 1 is very freaking good)

What else have I missed out on by making stupid assumptions about ships?

I've been practicing with 7 tie Howlswarm. Crackshot becomes slightly less applicable, but Howlrunner self-buffs.

I'm going through all the ridiculous things I've heard of over the years and putting them to the table with the intent to have some intense fun. Highlights have been PTL + Advanced Sensors + Engine Upgrade Echo, triple U-wings, and soon 4 lambdas and TIE filler...

Nice 1.0 casual game for me yesterday.

Played Saw with a stupid fun build (EI, expert handling, recruit, kyle), next to a stresshog (who got all that rerolls to fail every single attack die ^^), and a dlanking regenless Corran (AdvSensors, PtL, R2).

Opponent had a panel of different Imperial ships.

Lost Corran and the game to a 1 health phantom. Really had a good time, but while playing, we where talking about 2.0 all the time. Man we're so hyped abput it !
