Tracking demand for Conversion Kits ...

By Jeff Wilder, in X-Wing

Consider this! The content to support each ship is not equal!

Each ship only has its unique pilots once. Some ships have far more generic content than others.

Supporting two ghosts means adding one generic pilot card, base token, and dial.

It also means players who invested in two ghosts get a higher value of support than adding another small ship.

however each generic tie fighter is a few base tokens and a few generic pilot cards. 2-3 times the components required for supporting a ship that could be far more expensive.

i really think they tried their best to be as fair as possible.

I will also be short a Viper.

Didn’t they change the counts for Empire just after the announcement? Would love to drop a tug to add a Viper.

Empire was a typo, not actually changing what came in the pack

Man, Tug Life swarm becoming a thing is the ONLY reason I can see for 3 quads in that box

Since they probably won't be rereleased for a while

We'll call the squad... three quarter portions

Pretty useful data, but what is more interesting to me is how many more Rebel ships there are than Empire.

17 Rebel ships for conversion 16 Scum and 13 Empire. They get a +1 with the Reaper.

it really makes me wonder why they felt keeping Sabine’s TIE was a good idea. I like Rex. Having him in the game is cool but he could very easily be in a Z-95 (which he did fly) and Ashoka could be in an A-Wing (again which she does fly).

The Empire completely lose the Firespray (which given that I painted mine up would make me salty but I wasn’t using it anyway because it is a bad Imperial option in 1.0) but they can’t take away the silly TIE from the Rebels. I know it happened briefly in the show but it really crushes the theme to have a TIE supporting the Rebels IMO

I was curious how mine was going to work out - if I buy two Galactic Empire kits, I'll have the following surplus (and no deficit):

TIE Aggressor Small 2
TIE Punisher Medium 3
TIE Advanced v1 Small 5
TIE Striker Small 4
Alpha-class Star Wing Small 3
Lambda-class Shuttle Large 3
VT-49 Decimator Large 3

They're giving out really large amounts of the medium and large-base ships. Kind of odd!

It seems to have been distributed using the lpgic a hard points cost basis as opposed to any intelligent expectation. Looking further I have discovered that in addition to my 2 TIEs and X wings I will also be lacking an A wing and a Starviper. I guess they are going to be all the expensive ones on Ebay....

We dont know the whole story regarding future conversion kits.

also the kit contents take into account the number of ships you will have from the new core set 2+ ties and + x-wing

Daly city reporting in and I'm fairly new to the area... Where do yall play?

Join us on the SF Bay Area Facebook page. (I'm also in Daly City, BTW.)

It is instructive to take a beat and consider the Starviper. She is the postergirl of 1.0. The ONLY reason everybody's short on Starvipers is because nobody bought Starvipers... they bought autothrusters, titles, and harpoon missiles (and a beautiful model to paint). As each conversion is coming with a mountain of upgrade cards, at least you're getting a good return on all those autothrusters.

The most important thing to consider when considering a day 1 full fleet upgrade: EPIC is not yet supported. Do you think those huge ship conversion kits will make it rain generics? I think they might....

Another thing: Ladies and gentlemen, we have FOUR MONTHS of marketing and spoiling and Organized Play on the horizon. Our collective jaws will drop countless times, who knows.... Maybe we'll even stop picking on the quads (how many scavenger cranes/ASTS did you own?). Their jank was fun, now it could be delightful in this action economy. #UnkarFel

My money is still o n another 2 or 4 conversions for TIE-Fighters in the Epic kit and the same for X-Wings in the rebel epic kit.

Very interesting thought. After all the Gozanti came with 2 TIE/LN and the Raider came with a TIE Advanced (and had enough title cards to field 4). Which I would be very happy with as, for me, the conversion kit doesn’t cover 1 each of my TIE/LN and Advanced. So I’m all for it! ?

Imagine if they told people there Sabine's tie fighters were garbage and not being included in 2.0

Forums are insane enough now as it is.

I don't think that's going to happen (inclusion of generic conversions when they update Epic). The CKs are targeted at "ship classes," not "ship packs." If they were targeted at ship packs, for instance, there'd be no need to list the Attack Shuttle in the CK: you'd be getting two in the Ghost conversion.

I'm pretty sure the CKs don't care where or how you got your TIE fighters ... it's just giving you all the cards and cardboard needed to fly four of them.

We are getting 2 Phantom I and 2 Phantom II in the conversion kit. So it is indeed four shuttles. And there never was an Attack Shuttle SKU in the first place.

Yes, I know. Please reread.

See edit, there never was an attack shuttle sold separately.

Spoil sport ? (I don’t think it’s going to happen either but as I said it’s an interesting thought)

Good point. (Weird. I would have sworn ... ) That doesn't change my point, though: there'd be no need to list the Attack Shuttle separately in the CK contents, since it comes with the Ghost, if they're updating by "ship packs."

And get a million complains from those nasty X-Wing forums about missing ships? ?

the Imperial CK is badly designed.

what's weird to me is it's also the one out of the three that covers the smallest amount of ships. I won't have enough shortage to justify buying a second so I hope I can trade. On the other hand, if things are in high demand, it may be ok to buy a second and sell the surplus. time will tell.

I decided to buy a second one, and the only in-demand ship I will have available to trade/sell is a Defender. Too many of the other ships are a really big surplus. (But I was short 14 Imperial conversions, and I'll have the Defender I can trade for something (probably an X-wing), so I figure covering 15 more ships is worth the extra outlay ... even aside from any unlikely benefit I can get from the surplus ships.)

If I do get an Imperial conversion kit, I'll have tons of stuff left over, including two TIE/lns (plus two extra dials from the Rebel kit!). However, I am also 1) extremely unlikely to buy it on release, 2) might be better off trying to find conversions individually as I will likely have less than a dozen ships to convert (unless I find a really cheap Imperial collection for sale or something), and 3) at an unfortunate and extremely depressing distance from the left coast.

On the TIE Fighters, at least, are people taking into account the 2 they get from the Core set as well?

You're going to have 6 TIE dials after buying kit & core, and that's likely to be plenty for play purposes.
