Do I need to watch Black Panther before infinity war?

By NukeMaster, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So I googled the question but didn't find answers from anyone that had seen both movies. Will Black Panther be completely spoiled if I watch Infinity War first?

You don’t have to, but I think Infinity War actions and comments will all mean a lot less without that context. It will also spoil a bit of it, if only because you know who is alive after Black Panther.

Define completely spoiled. I found Black Panther to be quite predictable all the way through. But this is the right of it I think:

The context for Wakanda in Infinity War will be lessened without having seen Black Panther (which is worth seeing if you generally like the Marvel movies.)

Not needed. Simply read one sinopsis. Black Panther is simply one more superhero movie. Infinity is...much bigger

But does bigger = better?

Nah, I mean like some mentioned that you will miss out a little with Wakanda but generally so long as you can accept the simple idea that T'challa is the king of Wakanda and people know about them now. No real spoilers there that would ruin your watchthrough of either.

I think it would be better to watch it, as there will be some characters and things that do not have much explanation given in A: IW (BP's sister/tech genius, his general, the chief of the gorilla tribe, why does BP explode if you hit him?) that are significant to the IW movie, but you won't really know who they are.

If you are good just rolling with the punches, however, no, there is nothing particular you need to know from Black Panther . While other movies set up the locations of various Infinity Stones, BP is more setting up a ... setting... for Infinity War to play out in.

You need to watch Black Panther--full stop. Best Marvel has had to offer.

Spoilers? I can think of one BP fun-but-not-important twist (kinda spoiled in A:IW promotional materials...), but naturally, I can't really say which one.

Ryan Coogler is a cinematic genius (dude made us actually care about a Rocky movie in 2015. 2015! ), and the film is just so beautiful. Sets, costumes, acting, everything. Wakanda Forever.

It would certainly help, but it's not really necessary to understand the story.

But you should see it regardless because it is an outstanding film.

It would help, but I don't think it would ruin IW for you. You could roll with it, especially if you've seen Civil War.

Far more important that you've seen Ragnarok I'd say.

I agree that Thor:Ragnarok is much more must see than Black Panther. Overall Infinity War does expect that you've been following along with all of these movies. Infinity War doesn't spend time bringing you up to speed. When it does, the movie crashes through blink-and-you'll-miss-it quick.

I'm not a big fan of the Super Hero films and as such haven't seen many of them. Having said that, I'm also not a complete hermit.

My wife and I managed one of those rare nights where we could go out, kid free.

We saw Infinity War last night and enjoyed it. I would argue that to understand and appreciate the film you just need the most rudimentary understanding of Superheroes. Eg. This guy is Thor, he has powers. This is some red dude, he also has powers. There's an Olsen sister, wow she is incredibly beautiful, she has powers....

I don't feel like I missed anything of significance having not seen the others.
