A friendly and polite rage-free discussion of the future of 1.0 with estimates of end-dates of production and support

Calling on those who have a better understanding of FFG and miniatures games than I do.

What will the 1.0 sunset look like?

Brobots riding quietly towards the said sunset, the debris of PTW lying in the dirt behind them.

Edit : more seriously, I see one more FAQ coming during the summer, then its over for support.

Perhaps the better question is who will be buying up the clearance X-Wing stuff from 1.0 to save money on models for 2.0?

That’s what I was thinking. Good to see I’m not alone. One more FAQ suitable for laminating.

I did this on my lunch break today.

And they said it’s hard to get a lot of 1.0 models in right now anyways. If I was sticking with 1.0 OP I would be making all my purchases right now and printing out the faq and and anything else I wanted to have forever.

also of note, while 1.0 may be losing official support, the nature of the 2.0 upgrade means that it will be relatively easy to homebrew stats for any 2.0-exclusive ships, since most of the components will still be compatible.

I have one of every expansion and then abou twenty duplicates unopened. And about four copies of each core. 1.0 will live for a while with me.

Not just save money but not have to wait for things to be released. The roll out of additional expansion ships beyond Wave 1 may be just a trickle. Wave 2 may just be adding the sequel era factions.

thread title sounds like we're sending 1.0 to a "home" :(

Nope, sending it to live on a farm, where it can frolic and play with other obsolete miniature games.

Still, it's not like our 1.0 stuff is going anywhere! I plan to keep it all in a separate case, so if people feel like playing some "old-school" x-wing, it'll be right there!

Mine will be going in the dumpster where they belong.

@Jadotch, this may be a good place to advertise your efforts as well.

Thank you.

Yes, I am going to launch a 1.0 continuation website. I am to update it tomorrow with clear stated goals of the and ideas. (Downgrade future realeases to 1.0, community mod projects, flavor of play ... etc ...)

On a side note: Any help will be appericiated. It is a bit overwhelming from being a passive member of the community to a huge project.

Also, I think I have a rather simplistic solution to a lot of the errata problem.

Think about Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Circa 1999 a new edition hit the shelves. Much better, radical changes and superb game. But many people stick to their old and beloved manuals and campaigns. Even now after 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 5.0, Pathfinder and soon Pathfinder 2.0 "long beards" still continue playing Ad&d 2.0.

I was a devoted Ad&d second edition. Converted to 3.0. Converted to 3.5. And stopped there.

So I think that 1.0 will survive. But survive eclipsed by 2.0, 3.0... No reasons to buy 1.0 starting 2019. But a small community will survive. Or I think so.

Or... maybe... this is the equivalent of 4th edition D&D that totally backfires when players discover that the app requirement is just an excuse for FFG to be even more reckless than they already are about playtesting, and ships get recosted every quarter.

or...maybe...the app isn't an excuse and might actually turn out to be a useful list building tool by allowing you to scale upgrades according to ship and initiative value, maintaining balance even before the faq is released

That's unlikely. With 4e WotC did a ton of mistakes (mainly ******** on a lot of 3.5 mechanics and the guys who loved them; if you liked something in 3.5 that was getting changed, WotC flat out told you that you were wrong) that FFG seems to be steering well clear of. IMO 4e didn't fail mainly due to the game itself, but more due to the company's attitude.

Honestly, I'd rather that than the current situation. The Jumpmaster would've been fixed within a couple months instead of 2 years.
