10 minutes to plan a list, Poe Dameron, Sheathipede + ? ... Go!

By eljms, in X-Wing Squad Lists

A friend came over to play x-wing yesterday and both my sons wanted to participate so we teamed up to fly a ship each in a 100 point squad three ship list. One son wanted to fly Poe and one wanted to fly the Sheathipede. I didn't have a lot of time to think it over but this is what I came up with and it did just fine, edging the win over a Boba/Nym list with harpoons:

•Ezra Bridger (24) - Sheathipede-class Shuttle
Gunner (5), •R3-A2 (2)
•Poe Dameron (41) - T-70 X-Wing
Veteran Instincts (1), •R2-D2 (4), Advanced Optics (2), •Black One (1), Autothrusters (2)
•Eaden Vrill (35) - YT-2400
Rey (2), Tactical Jammer (1)
(full disclosure - I actually played it with smuggling compartment / burnout slam but on reflection, wish that we'd hidden ezra behind Eaden and gone with tactical jammer instead!)
I always feel like Eaden is this untapped reserve of potential if you can stress ships reliably enough to get him constantly shooting with an extra dice. Five shields, five hull, two agility, action economy on (ability assuming) a 3 dice primary turret all for 35 points. That sounds like a bargain to me! :)
Anyway - given the constraints of constructing a three ship list with a Sheathipede, plus Poe Dameron, what would you have come up with?

additional constraint, must be three ships!

I played Fenn/Poe/Lowhrick once (don't think it was my idea).

Something like this?

Poe Dameron (T-70 X-wing) Black One Advanced Optics Autothrusters Veteran Instincts R2-D2
Fenn Rau (Sheathipede-class Shuttle) Adaptability (-1) Tactician R3-A2
Lowhhrick (Auzituck Gunship) Rage Inspiring Recruit Finn

I guess I should have just checked meta-wing, how disappointingly boring ...

Lowrick is the "best" wingman to pretty much all list nowadays, some other options around 35 points:

Norra Wexley (29)
Push the Limit (3)
Nien Nunb (1)
BB-8 (2)
Alliance Overhaul (0)

Crimson Squadron Pilot (25)
Trajectory Simulator (1)
Ordnance Silos (2)
Proton Bombs (5)
Deflective Plating (1)

Ello Asty (30)
Expertise (4)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Jess Pava (25)
R3-A2 (2)
Advanced Optics (2)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Jess allows you to add Snap Shot to Ezra and you can modify those shots with M9-g8

My list was pretty different, but I don't remember all the details and I don't have it written down ... if that's what Meta-Wing said, it's probably much better!

There are a lot of squads out there along these general lines but quite a bit of variation in the Low / Fenn builds in particular. C3PO & Rey pop up quite a bit, as does Selflessness.

It's nice that there's some customizability. Yeah, I think I had Selflessness on Lowhhrick, and maybe Rey ... Fenn had VI and I think Inspiring Recruit, though I don't remember why ; he might have had Vectored Thrusters (I believe I took the build from someone on here) . I used BB-8 on Poe. But I only played it once, so I don't really know how effective it was compared to other options.

For ezra/poe, I would've switched VI to ezra, so he could shoot first and get his defensive stress, then use the empty EPT on poe to give him intensity, drop the optics and replace with primed thrusters so he can pull a talon roll/K-turn and still get his focus, and finally switch R2-D2 to R5-P9. The obvious weakness is that I have two upgrades competing for my focus, but usually, I make regen my priority and I probably won't be starving for an intensity focus. On Ezra, he'll probably be focused down first, so every shot they waste on him is a victory. I'd put some regen on him with pulsed ray shields (if you used the upgrades above you can afford it) or vectored thrusters to give you plenty of options. Eaden Vrill is a pilot I really want to work, but if he's focused down, he probably going to be PS killed, so drop R2-D2 crew on him, more as deterrent than anything. Also, if you want smuggling compartment, use Black market slicer tools, so you can move first and slice them before they use a green and clear it.

Hope I helped

I dig the orginal list. I flew Poptics (but with BB-8) and that Ezra (with Snap Shot too) to regionals alongside Keyan Maullander, which was super fun. Though Norra with Rey/VI/FAA might be better, not too sure

There was a while I was flying:

  • Poe (9) - VI, Black One, R2-D2, Advanced Optics, Autothrusters (43)
  • Fenn Rau - VI, Flight Assist Astro, Hotshot Copilot (26)
  • Braylen Stramm - M9-G8, Weapons Engineer, title (31)

Fenn and Braylen combine to do a nasty number on your opponent's dice (most of the time), and Poe is extra hard to kill as a result. I think I went 10-3 or suchlike in tournaments with it. That said, it never felt good against Expertise ships. The dice tricks are kind of the same as Ghost/Fenn, thus have the same counters, but I don't necessarily think it's stronger against anything. However, you have ships which have to actually get arc, and as a result, it seems almost wholesome.

I guess it's like a cinnamon sugar graham cracker. You can kinda pretend it's not a cookie, but you'd just be lying to yourself.
