Tie Bomber, A-wing and some point costs

By intoxicatedALF, in X-Wing

Not sure if this was covered already but here’s some close ups of the Tie Bomber and A-Wing abilities, plus Luke’s points value.

Tie Bomber - If you would drop a device using the [straight] template, you may use a [left bank] or [right bank] template of the same speed instead.

A-Wing - After you preform an action, you may perform a red [boost] action.

Luke Skywalker = 60pt, Predictive Shot = 5pt, R2-D2 = 10pt, Proton Torpedoes = 8pt, R5-D8 = 7pt

I wonder why the app didn't show porkins' cost.

Also, Deathrain drops a bomb on death. I wonder what a "device" is. Launch is still in the game, which I'm sure is going to annoy some people.

I wonder what the Bomber's linked action is?

wish we had shared upgrades across different pilots to get an idea of how they scaled

also I see they took deathfire's name a touch literally

that's deathfire

even in 1.0, he never could quite master the deathrain hairball

Oh ok misread the card :P
Thank god lol.

Still a lousy ability imo...

I hope the Tie Bomber is actually good at bombing in 2.0. But yeah it seems like Deathfire is the Fel's Wrath of Tie Bombers.

When you are destroyed, before you are removed, you may perform an [Barrel Roll action] and drop or launch 1 device.

Could be pretty good if the bomb or whatever actually goes off instantly, but it does look like the Tie Bomber will be able to launch or drop with some upgrade or configuration.

As they said, you can lock onto "objects" now, and objects mean anything...

So a device is something you can put out, but does not explode... Maybe it gives benefits to friendlies, or even attacks enemies (stationary turret platform), or maybe debuffs them...

They may have moved mines to devices so they can have separate rules from regular bombs. That or maybe they have other deployables, like droids or drones, planned for the future. Dropable Probe Droid anyone?

I’m assuming anything that can be dropped or launched is now a device. Bombs, rigged cargo, etc. must be more to come too.

Per the Team Covenant demo, bombs are used in a "device phase" which happens before the activation phase, so that kinda makes sense to me.

could be

could also be "Devices" are more than just bombs (could be cool things like "flares" or "sensors" that last until whenever and provided bonsuses against all ships in a radius)

also, I don't know when bombs pop in this edition. timing could change utility of ability

but if detonate-on-overlap exists (though ACTION bombs don't)...well you don't want to be behind deathfire when he dies. you know what southpark says about what happens when you die...

also wonder if his ability would allow you to Launch a device when you normally wouldn't be able to (bomber, after all, not punisher). That'd make killing him really inadvisable under certain circumstances

seems it also says "you may perform...(an action?)" before dropping/launching, so you can roll into a perfect position during combat (after everyone has moved)

idk, reading more about it makes me feel like he will be super annoying to play against. for your opponents ;)

It probably does, and that's the reason why Deathfire isn't bad.

He is the FFG equivalent of a glowing red barrel in video games.

I'm simply wondering is Punisher's will actually live up to their names in 2.0......

forgot to edit in time, but it also seems he can perform an action (ie barrel-roll) prior to bomb drop

the amount of troll I sense in him...oh man

Bombers got an ability, willing to bet they are as well.

"Device" is an umbrella term for bombs, mines, and other droppable stuff.

Hm.... I know that TIE Bomber title...

finally squinted it out

"unflinching diehard"

heh, you don't say?

Oh, I was talking about this:

x_wing_miniatures___custom_title_tie_bom

(I couldn't read that small letters, anyway)

Launch wont be anywhere near as irritating since its still done before any ship moves.
Especially if its still limited to auto-exploders, though now that theres no action bombs i'd be surprised to see launch be limited still

Launch will probably be ordnance dependent, rather than an option for all bombs.

So far it looks like bombs detonate at the end of the activation phase, to allow people to react a little and get out of the way. No idea what happens if a bomb/mine/etc is dropped outside that phase maybe auto detonate?

Personally I just imagine that Deathfire slams a fist on the bomb chute button, brings his arms up doing a double peace sign before jettisoning into space as his craft explodes. "Deathfire blasting off again~!"

Also, just looked at the trailer again, Luke starts at 60 points there on the screen, and Jek's points flash starting at 50 then the screen flashes and their points reduce by two to make them 58 and 48 respectively. Their upgrades stayed the same so I'm guessing that was to show dynamic costing where they can alter it to be competitive.

Small other notes from the trailer which might just be due to the CG models they were using but looks like most Imperial ships will be their ESB blue color scheme, though the Defender seemed ANH grey/white, maybe to show that the program was cancelled before ANH. Also they used the TFA falcon, might very much just be a 3D model thing, but maybe they will have it where they sell a single falcon with a OT and ST dish that can be swapped between the two.
