“It is happening again” - the right number of tokens

I have so far painted two cores, a rebel and a stormtrooper expansion and Veers and am already suffering token bloat. I haven’t even unpacked my AT-ST or AT-RT yet and I started wondering if anyone had figured out how many tokens are actually needed for an army?

I own a box for transport that's modular and I actually split all the tokens in each of the small compartments that can get out of the case. This way, you don't feel bloated and just ahve to reach for the corresponding compartments during battle.

A lot of the tokens kind of come into play as they come into play. Several you may not need depending upon the composition of the army (such as for an empty weapon).

With other games like this, I'd found that having one of the plano boxes worked great for the normal tokens and can normally be sat on the table besides you as you play for both keeping them available and organized with little effort.

Of course, you still need a bag for the command tokens as well, but that's kind of different there.

Well, for starters, you can look up the Grand Army requirements for Order tokens in the RRG and start binning anything above and beyond that.

Depending on future abilities that add extra Dodge/Aim tokens to units without the unit needing to spend the action, you may want to keep 15-20 of each of those.

Probably worth keeping closer to 30 suppression tokens.

A few each of the vehicle damage token sets.

Maybe a dozen ions?

Enough damage tokens to cover ~30pts of damage?

After that you can start chucking them.

In X-Wing, I never had the opportunity to field ALL of my ships in some mondo battle so I didn't really need 50 Focus tokens. The same applies here. Unless you bought enough stuff to field 4000pt armies that are light on upgrades, you probably can start chucking tokens based on something along the lines of the above.

Build to that, then start asking yourself, after playing some games, did you ever feel like you were running out of tokens? If the answer is "no", then start binning that cardboard!

Personally I think 4 aim, 8 dodge, a few sets of vehicle damage tokens, and a few wound tokens (depends on the number of vehicles/heroes you are playing with) as well as a pile of suppression tokens is all you need readily available. The rest you can fish for if necessary.
