Will 2.0 make older templates (including all those nice acrylic custom and prize templates) obsolete?
Will 2.0 make templates obsolete?
Not really. Everything is the same, just with that mid line. Just keep the cardboard "1" template from the new core for barrel rolls or make a mark in the middle edge of your current templates. (Or just eyeball it)
No, you will only need to have a new 1 straight(possibly the 1 bank if starvipers keep their shenanigans) for BR. The others only use the center line to help with alignment on bumps, for now.
OK, so you basically just need the cardboard 1 straight for barrel rolls, otherwise you can use the old ones. Thanks for the replies.

I'm planning on cutting the lines (just on the ends) on the back of my acrylic 1 straight.
Might need a 2 straight as well for cloak and if the pilots like Zeta Ace keeps their ability.
Do you even really need the center line for barrel rolls? Couldn't you just line the edge of the template up with the front or back edge of the base and then move the ship over so it lines up the same way?
All that really matters is the ship moves straight across if that's the type of roll you declared.

You'll also need 3 turn template for talon rolls

And 2 turns for the same..
So let's see, the lines are needed for:
1 straight for barrel rolls
2 straight for decloak
3 turn for talon rolls
2 turn for talon rolls
1 bank if Starviper Mk2 is still a thing
2 bank if Echo
What else?
Yes, you could eyeball it, but for tournaments that probably won't be allowed.
I’m hoping someone will offer a service to etch your old templates to bring them up to 2.0 specs.
Or worst case, I pony up another 30 or so for the next gen templates from someone like Applied Perspectives or CurledPaw.

A straight-across barrel roll is only one of three barrel roll options in 2.0
Yea kinda bummed that I designed my own acrylic templates last year and now they are somewhat obsolete.
I guess bring the extra cardboard pieces when needed.
Did I hear somewhere about FFG doing a promotion with acrylic 1 straights as a prize? That would be a great idea IMO. Especially as a lot of people have range rulers from various FFG tournies over the years.
Well, I was just curious, and I found one acrylic vendor has already upgraded their template set to match.

Thanks for the link. Ordered a set to replace my current templates.

Yeah, but the other ones just go off the edges of the base and don't use the centerline so that's not relevant
Dalan Oberos makes 1 & 2 turns as well as 1, 2 & 3 banks into Talon Rolls, so basically the only templates you DON'T currently need lines on are the 3, 4 & 5 straight, but that's just another reason not to play with Dalan haha.
