So how do I practice now?

By Yearfire, in X-Wing

So I’m really exited about 2.0, and will be all in on imperials when it drops. (Probably Vader+miniswarm)

But one of my favorite part of the game planing list and learning to fly different meta lists, so now I don’t know what to for the rest of the time with 1.0.

My plan for the coming months was to learn how to fly Miranda, Lowrick, Ezra to know how to beat it, but now that will be obsolete in a few months.

How do you guys plan to play 1.0 to best prepare for 2.0?

Start playing the reaper and u on medium bases as soon as they arrive, and start playing with new BR rules right now. I already modified one of my acrylic BR tokens.

Fly more fixed and mobile arcs and fewer turrets to get used to the new turret system. Maybe sort out some mockup new turrets using aux arc or caster bases.

But mostly keep playing and enjoying 1e whilst it lasts. 2e is a new game but the core mechanics of movement and dial planning are the same, so all 1e practice is good 2e practice.

I will definitely keep playing and enjoying the game. But part of what I enjoy is the planing and practicing for the future.

I think my local group will keep playing 1.0, so probably no new turret proxies, but the medium bases is a good point. I wasn’t planing to get a reaper, but now I might consider it.

Move over all the mechanics that you can.

To clarify... new BR is only being able to select one of three positions on the side of ship card. How did you measure where to put the tick marks? Also, how did you mark the acrylic ruler? Just a line down the center?

I measured with calipers, and marked with a marking gauge, a steel rule, and a plastic scriber, then filled in the scribed line with paint.

Practice having to care about where your ship is pointed.

Gonna be flying more TIE/LN's since the dial is the same. Its hard flying a 1.0 x1 though when I know that the 2.0 one is way better.

- Fly early-ish waves, since maneuvering will become more important again.

- Use bluffing abilities (like U-Wing pivot wing), since bluffing will become more important.

Basically, practice the core game skills.

The best thing you can do to get ready for 2.0 is practice not posting a bunch of salt on the forums, because it’s gonna be good . ;)

Judging by your post up there, you’re already well on your way to being a happy, satisfied X-Wing 2.0 Master.

Yeah I would just gather all the info for 2.0 as it is released, as it is there are several demo games on YouTube to learn from. Keep a list and proxy, and for sure pick up saw’s renegades and tie reaper for medium base

the word is the rest of 1.0 tournaments will have 2.0 prizes so fly something more wholesome that cares about arc. A lot of triple imperial lists do like 2 silencers and qd, or imp Alfa.

The next 4 months are a going away party. Gonna fly a few ships I meant to get to over the past three years. Gonna fly a few old favorites. Not taking it too seriously.

You can play 2.0 as soon as the reaper and saws pack comes out......

Have to use quick build so you get the costing roughly ok.

Now you just practice by unlearning just about everything. Thats the beauty of all this?!

I have always played just to have fun. I should do fine.

That’s really smart. I didn’t think about that. A reaper-only squadron might be a bit boring though.

I’m really looking forward to this. My only possible complaint so far is the size of the new upgrade cards, but that’s a minor detail, and probably worth it.

I’m of half a mind to practice with Kylo Ren for a while. Partly because I have yet to master pre-movement reposition and partly because unlike other aces he actually takes damage when shot, and I guess that’s going to be more common in 2e.

Focus on skills that will transfer over:

-Small and Large base: Learn to eyeball the maneuvers. You can practice this solo with a lot of asteroids and check if your maneuver will put you or not on the asteroid. This year's world champion, Sim, is a master in that. Watch how he confidently takes a 2 straight facing the board edge, knowing he will not get out of the play area.

-Analyze what ship you should focus on: At the start of the match, know what your list can do, what your opponent's list can do and what will be your target priority, and your opponent's target priority. This analysis will not go with 2.0, just the specific matchups, but you better learn it.

-Asteroid placement: Obstacles are not going out in 2.0 and placement appears to be the same. Do you put them near you, near the opponent, in the middle, in the edges, in the corners, spread or clustered?

You should try brobots (the same list as the champion) and imperial aces (Kylo, Quickdraw, Epsilon Ace). Those will train you in the skills required.
