A La Carte Upgrade Kits?

By oatesatm, in X-Wing

Yes ... I know it's a total pain in the rear end to put them together on an order by order basis, but it seems that the upgrade kits (as they're currently constructed) leaves some wasted parts or doesn't have enough to cover what players may have, possibly forcing them to buy multiple copies of each just to convert everything.

What do you think of the option to do A La Carte upgrading? It would probably, pound for pound, be a little more expensive than the upgrade kits, but at least you'd get exactly what you need for what you have invested into the game over the years. It is true that the game has gotten a bit stale and needed to be fixed in a few areas so a 2nd Edition isn't a bad thing ... just expensive, and possibly uber-expensive depending on how much you've invested.

They have stated it would be a logistical nightmare for stores and are not going to do it.

FFG believes in stores being important so won't offer product from their website you cant get at a store.

My advice to you is team up with some friends and people locally and figure out how many kits you need between the group, that or sell your extras/ buy your missing ones. I am sure lots of people will be trying to sell off the stuff for ships they don't have.

The third party market will take care of this problem quite well.

Not gonna happen.

If you want stuff a la carte, you can bet there will be resellers breaking down conversion kits on day 1 of release, you can order singles from them.

Even then, it wont be truely a la carte- There's enough cardboard for 1 of each generic per ship, plus 1 of each unique... but the uniques are usually on the back of a generic's cardboard. You buy a single ship dial, you will usually get at least 1 unique bundled in.

A la carte means choosing a subset of the available options from a menu.

That's literally what a la carte means - on the card. On the menu.

It was never ever going to be possible to print whatever combinations of pilots you wanted.
