Chime of Ra

By jpharris, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

My group doesn't agree on how to use the Chime of Ra. One player believes you must specify either combat or horror checks when you spend a token from the item. Another believes that each spent token adds to any combat or horror checks until the end of the phase.

How do you interpret it?

I would say you have to specify which check you're getting the bonus to when spending the tokens.

I'd say that for each token spend, you specify whether the token's adding to Combat or to Horror checks.

It also says "any phase" and "discard one or more tokens," so what's stopping you from discarding one and saying "+2 to horror checks!" and then discarding one and declaring "+2 to combat checks!"

Um. What indeed?

Avi, your answer looked like you said that on any given phase when you use the Chime, once you declare that the first token used is for "Horror checks," then until the phase ends, any other tokens you spend would also have to add to Horror checks and not to Combat checks (and so you could not spend one towards horror and one towards combat in the same phase). Did I misunderstand?

Yes :')

Long Answer: I thought the question was whether each token gives +2 to combat and horror checks, or to one or the other. I was quoting the card indicating that each token gives to one *or* the other, not horror and combat. Apparently I wasn't clear enough, but I was agreeing with you :') So you only misunderstood me, and that's fine ;')
