I think 2.0 will be fantastic and is inevitable...but I have 437 reasons to not evolve.

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

Yeeep. 437 ships. Including 15 Huge ships. Also...

-Tons of House Rules and "fixes". AAA, Space Stations, Celestial Phenomena, etc

-Hundreds of fan made named pilots, and upgrade cards.

-12 boxes full of original and printed cards. Circa 100 Proton Torps, per example.

-Many balanced Cinematic Double Epic scenarios.

-Less playing time devoted to X Wing.

-Out of "Hangar Space" to acomodate more ships.

But I am excited about 2.0. Will purchase at least one each from each expac. X Wing community needs this, in my opinion. This was needed perhaps two years ago. But my game group and I "built" our own X Wing over the years. No need to update.

New Editions... We did not evolve from Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 to 4.0. Or from Shadowrun 2 to 3. Etc.

But 2.0 is a must. Evolve or Die. X Wings and Tie Advanceds on the table. Thumbs up. Now I feel my fleet is complete. Enjoyed every second and will continue playing for sure. But I will not update.

This forum has been crucial to improve my game's experience. Polite and creative players who share their ideas. Thanks a lot, people.

Semper Fi.

You have me beat. 215 ships only.

Only 437 reasons? Not enough.

You know you don't have to convert everything, yeah?

Minimum buy in for 1.0 veterans is $90 (core + kit). It isn't whatever you need to convert your entire collection.

Gives more than enough to get a lot of games in with a ton of different (hopefully viable) squads

Then you can decide to convert further, or simply enjoy the fact that conversion kits lets your models retain value as you sell them off to someone who feels like taking the plunge

It is not about the number os models we own. This is about feelings. At least for me and my fellas.

You can see why people would think that’s exactly what it’s about though, given the thread title.

I am fortunate, no problem investing money to update. Wargaming is my hobbie. Will purchase 2.0 expansions for sure. This is about the sheer volume of gaming material generated by me and my friends. Carefully adapted to our tasted, like a gun customiced for you.

Feel no need to modify the rules, scenarios, upgrades, etc. Not a new situation. And no drama. We will enjoy this game in a future. From time to time we play 3.5 D&D. ASL is our number one game now. Feel no need to update.

But we are a bunch of friends who play as a group since aprox 1980. Not very common situation. And as said before 2.0 is a must. And I hope we will see 3.0 fall 2024.

The message was "the number of ships you own is NOT a measure of your love about X Wing".

If you don’t want to convert you don’t have to. Sounds like you have the means to keep a group of friends thriving on your own content.

In a sense, you’ve already transcended 1.0 xwing.

Batter than 13 reasons why...

im pretty sure I’ll upgrade. I only have 1 epic ship, so I’m hoping that gets an update.

but I’m sitting pretty good when it comes to the conversion kits.

Hoping to see updates for all the epic ships.

Of course. I am 48 years old. Wargamer since I was 7. The way FFG announced how to evolve to 2.0 seems very good. A game must evolve to keep alive. But to my taste when you feel OK with a game... no need to make the transition.

They’ve probably got to figure out what to do for epic games, how energy (if applicable) works, hard points etc will ultimately work.

Shameless double posts: I’m only 32, playing games since 14-15, so that’s a totally valid feeling.

I too see your position @Hexdot, I understand. I’m not sure, but I’ll probably do some upgrades, most not as I too have pint-game fixes that work well.

my question is, how can FFG sell those in-stock Raiders now?

Epic is, in my opinion, the best way to play Cinematic. Energy mechanics works fine. I hope we will see RPG/Campsign style X Wing expansions involving Huge ships. Some rules should change but Energy is very interesting.

Ran out of reactions, but cannot agree more.

Guys the beauty of this new system is customization and I feel many casual only players will see as I have...with blank cards come power. All the good homebrew we have seen developed over the years, mix that with someone who has ap designing ability and blammo hotac on your phone app! You can homebrew anything just about and it’s a system designed to have floating stats through the app interface. I can not wait until some of our gifted minds in this version get the freedom of the new. These are going to be great days my friends, great days

It’s also not possible at this point for the conversion kits to cover you full collection of ships. Unless you’ve played only with Galactic Empire, Scum, or Rebellion ships.

Sounds like you're not exactly playing 1.0 then either with all the house rules/adjustments and non-standard play formats, and thus would not necessarily need 2.0. Which is fine, of course. I also wouldn't be surprised if you can simulate a lot of the 2.0 experience with 1.0 equipment by just eyeballing where the new markings on the bases will be (for barrel rolls and side/rear arcs), plus a few printed cards or just plain printed lists.

Personally I've been thinking about cutting down my collection a bit and the conversion kit limitations might actually motivate me to finally do it
