UPDATE: Polymorph effect fixed.

ALTER

Concentration: Yes

Skills: Arcana

This action represents the use of magic to change the physical form or appearance of an inanimate Silhouette 0 object within short range (for example, changing a sword into a stick). The default difficulty for the check is Easy (1P). If the check is successful, the change will continue until the end of the character’s next turn. Before making the check, choose any number of additional effects listed on the table below. These effects are added to the check.

ALTER ADDITIONAL EFFECTS DIFFICULTY MOD
Size : The spell will affect an object of one Silhoutte size larger, and can be used to increase or decrease the size of the target by one Slhouette size (for example, turning a pebble into a boulder, or vice versa). This may be added multiple times, increasing the size by one Silhouette each time. +1P
Polymorph: The spell will affect a living creature, and will allow the target to be changed into a creature of the same Silhouette (for example, a dog may be changed into a dragon, but the dragon will be the same size as the dog). The target will not gain any of its new form's special abilities. +1P
Range: Increase the range of the spell by one range band. This may be added multiple times, increasing the range by one range band each time. +1P
Additional Target: The spell will affect one additional target within range of the spell. In addition, after casting the spell, you may spend an Advantage to affect one additional target within range of the spell (and may trigger this multiple times, spending an Advantage each time. +1P
Transmute: The spell will change a creature into an inanimate object, or vice versa. +2P
Grand Polymorph: This effect allow the target creature to gain the special abilities (for example, dragon's breath, magic, regeneration, etc) of the new form it is changed into. +3P

Update spell effect

I would like to take a second to note that "alter" is the german equivalent of "dude".

On topic, some things might need clarification:

Can Grand Polymorph be used to target yourself? As in, does this spell encompass a quasi shapeshift spell?

And, assuming the caster is silhouette 1, thus the size effect needs to be added once to target themself, does

mean that they can turn themself into a silhouette 2 creature (and even bigger if size is added multiple times)?

For a transmutation/polymorph spell this looks very sound, but if meant to double as shapeshift, I think 5 purple (base + size + grand polymorph) is a lot to turn into a silhouette 2 creature.

I would say so. I had in mind the AD&D Polymorph Any Object 8th-level spell when I thought about this one.

Yes.

I had not really intended it as a shapeshift spell (though of course I wouldn’t say it couldn’t be used that way), but as you say I was thinking more along the lines of transmutation/polymorph.

i would propose the names "Shape" or "Alterate

i would add:

Enlarge/Shrink (Arcane, Primal or Self Only) [+1P]: As "Size", except it can be used to enlarge/shrink the Target by +1/-1 Silhouette regardless of the Targets starting Silhouette. Can only be used on single Targets.

I think base polymorph should be +2 instead of +1. 1 extra purple to completely turn off a creatures special abilities seems like a lot.

I like that. Might have to play with the base spell but that would work, and “Size” can be simplified.

Well I’m thinking that it’s not so much turning off special abilities but just being a simple shapeshift, sort of like putting on a costume. Thus Grand Polymorph will bestow the special abilities for 2 purple.

Yes, well, you specifically call out turning off a creature’s special abilities in the Polymorph effect.

The target will not gain any of its new form's special abilities, but will lose any it possessed before the transformation (a dog turned into a dragon will not have fiery breath or be able to use magic , but a dragon turned into a dog will lose it's breath and magic).

This is far too powerful for a spell at DD.png difficulty (base of D.png , + D.png for the Polymorph effect).

So I did, oops. I thought I had edited that but it appears not. Special abilities should not be turned off by Polymorph - that effect should not touch any special abilities. Thanks for pointing that out!
