The WORST THING about X-wing 2.0

By Maui., in X-Wing

is how long I have to wait before it is finally released. FFG PLZ Q.Q

also coming in a close second is probably all the terrible clickbait threads that keep popping up all over the forums

The self-righteous players who won't shut up about not buying it, because how DARE a business even THINK about making money on a product they make?! For SHAME!

This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Kenobi, and will soon see the end of Regen-Missile-Bomb-Turret-Wing.

They made a generic astromech that can regen. Sure gives you a weapons disabled and has a limit of 2. But has no dial restriction and if the power level is down, should be at least worth considering taking.

There is no issue with regen as a concept but when I can lose all of the shields on my T-70, fly around the opposite side of the board for a few turns and then come back in with full shields time after time. That is the issue. By making it limited by charges, it is more fair.

Not to mention more thematic; Star Wars ships have exactly the energy or endurance required by plot mechanics, not unlimited.

Do you truly think the only way to make money on a product is to screw your customer base? GW repeatedly issued new rulesets to sell new models which made older models/armies obsolete. This is one reason why so many people transferred their loyalty to other miniature companies like Privateer Press and...oh....FFG. Likewise, Wizkids had a big hit on their hands once upon a time with Mage Knight. Then they did a 2.0 redesign and suddenly players who had bought their product found version 1.0 worthless overnight.

It isn't necessary to strip the value from what you have previously sold in order to sell something new. That said, my primary objection to 2.0 has been the stated requirement that you would have to engage an app to participate in competitive play. Some have claimed that FFG now states this isn't the case but, I'll need to wait and see how they actually handle the issue.

not sure how you'd port 1.0 miniatures over to 2.0 without doing what FFG is doing. seems to be a case of unrealistic expectations

best case scenario is they'd roll core set templates + damage deck into conversion kits. Otherwise, the complete balance overhaul (ALL the cards, basically, especially ships with specific action-chains that allowed designers to continue introducing action-efficiency while avoiding token stacking that was such a problem in 1.0), base overhaul (clear definition of quadrants, 180 degree divisions for reinforce, bullseye arc for upgrades/ability usage, updated pilot names and initiative values etc.) and minor template additions all necessitate moving away from the antiquated and stifling conventions of 1.0. This means ditching the upgrade card bloat, the obsolete pilot cards, and the very basic bases.

also this hullabaloo about the app is silly. We don't even know if it will require internet connection on anything short of updates, and it serves as an incredibly convenient way to track scaling upgrade costs that'll ensure the game remains balanced even before the digital erratas begin to hit

" Points will adjust based on the type of game that you are playing, and the cost of a card could vary under very specific criteria. For example, an upgrade card may cost more for one ship to equip than another ship."

in the worst case scenario that someone does not have an internet capable phone, there's always your computer. With just the slightest bit of foresight, anyone can print out either several lists or several configurations of pilots to easily swap into and out of their squads.

the only real "problem" is that the quick build cards, while a nice touch, are very restrictive in their loadouts. For everything else, the app is just super convenient and difficult to take issue with

Pretty sure the WORST THING is that Maarek Stele doesn't appear to be a Force user.

No. Because they're not.

Did someone from FFG come to your home and take your collection away? No. The models have all the value they've always had, save for competitive play. The conversion kits are an amazing value for what you get. FFG are a business, not a charity. There's no reason for them to do anything that doesn't make them a profit, and we should all be grateful they're giving us a cheaper means to keep our collections valid instead of making us buy all the models all over again.
