This hasn't been considered much, yet, I think: With point costs no longer on the cards, play testing can have effects for longer, since the point where cards are frozen in time by going into production no longer exists for cost. This way community reactions can be analyzed and taken into account (member the triple scout desaster where that list was build immediatly when the upgrade bar was known?), too. That is a pretty great opportunity!
Another perspective on the removal of printed point cost
It is one of the big benefits. Increased turn around time for fixes.
Provided its done on a realistic schedule. For example if they're tinkering with the points every week that will be a nightmare. Not the mention piss of the people who will prefer to work off the printed PDF.
For me the vast majority of my games are with other people who I provide teh models and lists for so I will mostly be using the new quick build options rather than scratch building.
That’s true... although I wonder how/if they will spoil point costs prior to release.
If nothing else it lets them spend more time playtesting because there isn’t that hard deadline (devs have even said they’re still working out point costs for the already spoiled stuff).
Maybe they won't?
Or stuff might be added to the app when its spoiled. Its possible we will not know point costs until stuff actually drops. Might be fun to go back to working out builds when stuff is launched rather than months before the stuff even hits the table.
Yes please.
Release days have kind of become anticlimactic, as people come in and bring the list they’ve been theorycrafting and practicing for the past few months.
I want to pull up the app in the game store after ripping open the new ships and throw something together right away that looks fun. Or go straight to the quick builds!
100% agree.

In one of the video interviews they said it won’t be that near that frequently. My guess is probably quarterly.
Everyone also seems to be forgetting that there will also be a web app to use in your home computer (or library) as well.
Most people I see deliberately forget about those options just to stir the pot as it were.
For me there is no issue. I have not built a list without a squad builder for years but some people will jump on this point in an attempt to prove their are being shunned. Even with evidence to the contrary.

The trailer shows R2D2 at 10pt and Protontorps at 8. that‘s pretty similar to what they are/should be now.

Oh nice! I hadn't seen that. Regardless, the way the devs have been talking on the interviews/livestream it sounds like those are subject to change.
Random thought... I'm a little worried about the comparative costing between R2-D2 and the generic R2. I have a feeling that third charge will be difficult to pull off, so R2-D2 will have to be competitively priced to see play.

But isn’t the new system set for 200pts being the average game?
No points on the cards and incorporation of the app is the smartest design feature I’ve seen in a game for some time.

Depending on how soon point costs get 'set in stone' internally, this might give playtesters a pretty big advantage over everyone else.

No change there. Playtesters always have the advantage even if they are not working with the 100% finished product.

Exactly.
R2D2 is now 4, that‘s a bit too cheap. Double 4 is 8, a bit more expensive is 9 or 10. Same for proton torps

Also the points costs shown were for Luke. It has been implied that pricing will be dynamic for different pilots so costs may change depending on who you are putting the upgrade on.

Oh man.
I had thought about this in terms of balance, which is already awesome.
But they could ALSO incentivize theme! So maybe R2-D2 is cheaper on Luke!

Except with 1st edition everybody gets a couple of months to theory craft, due to spoilers. If points were kept secret until release, this time will be drastically cut short for everyone without inside info, as the time between release and tournament legal is a couple of weeks AFAIK.
