Valuable Payload - Vassal Mini Event

From all reports, the 200 point skirmish at Worlds was a success and really fun. I was in 1b, and couldn’t attend and I thought it’d be great to give it a go on vassal.

This would be a great event for experienced and new players! Give vassal a try and experience a great community of Armada players!

Fleet Building: Fleet cannot exceed 200 points. Fleet cannot exceed 100 points of squadrons. Player may include a single commander in their fleet.

Play area: 3x3

Setup: Each player’s deployment zone is within distance 3 of that players edge of the play area and beyond distance 3 of any other edge if the play area.

Players may place obstacles anywhere in the setup area beyond distance 1 of any edge of the play area (even in deployment zones) and beyond distance 1 of each other. Players cannot deploy ships and squadrons overlapping obstacles.

After deploying fleets, the second player places a victory token in their deployment zone at distance 2 of their edge of the play area. Then the second player places one victory token in the first player’s deployment zone at distance 2 of the first player’s edge of the play area. Each player chooses one of their ships that is not a flotilla to be an objective ship, starting with the first player.

Special Rule: When the first player’s objective ship reveals a command dial, if it is at distance 1 of the victory token in the second player’s deployment zone, the first player gains that victory token.

When the second player’s objective ship reveals a command dial, if it is at distance 1 of the victory token in the first player’s deployment zone, the second player gains that victory token.

A victory token is worth 50 points.

We will play a Hyper Casual three round swiss.

Sounds fun, I'm definitely in!

The special rules seem to me to be close to symmetrical considering first and second player. Does this not mean that there is nothing in the rules to mitigate first player bias?

Add in a flipping initiative.

Or just be happy that the bid is going to hurt even more with each point representing 2x more as a percentage of youravailable points.

Was there flipping initiative in the event?

I’d like to try running the exact format first and learn and tweak.

I was thinking the 2nd player advantage of placing the two tokens would be pretty strong.

Ah, I did not get that the second player places both tokens. Maybe that makes strategic for first player mandatory?

Yeah still really casual but definitely a tourney. No more than two, and tabling rule in effect.
