Any explanation for the price increase in regular ships?

By Kingsguard, in X-Wing

Saying "inflation" is reductive. Is the price of this consumer good being inflated because the factory workers are getting more money (lol)? What about the designers? I wouldn't be upset if people with design credits for this game were finally making as much as a midlevel marketing person at Amazon.

But my guess is that the money is going to the banks that own Asmodee.

TBH 6 years with no price increase is unexpected really. You also get more for that extra 5 dollars, at least enough in new cards/tokens.

Only $5 is reasonable enough.

Prices have been steadily increasing and will continue to do so in the future. In 6 years basic ships may be 25-30 msrp, online $20-$25.

Years ago, you used to find them online at $10, now they cost $16.

Besides that, every medium ship that previously came in blisters (k-wing size) at $16 will now come in what are silencer and firespray sized boxes (now reduced in size) at $23. It is unclear how and for how much they intend to sell bigger sized expansions (Shadowcaster sized and Ghost sized). Basically, that middle spot was eliminated and everything in it moved up one price category. I don't think Shadowcaster and such expansions would cost as much as a Ghost, but maybe another category is shifted up, too.

If you intend on continuing, know that prices will always go up, and constant investment is required, if you play competitively. There is a big casual market which will keep driving prices up, because these models look better than a lego, and FFG, LFL and Asmodee are greedy.

Basic ships are already $25-$30 here in Australia...

You increase $15 by 33% to get to $20.

You increase 1.0 by 100% to get to 2.0...so I think we came out ahead.

Both those scenarios are ultimately good for everyone involved.

It's a pity that FFG went through with the merger. It really seems they were doing fine on their own. But let's face it, one's money is safer stored in a backpack under your bed than in major banks these days.

you've got to take the Nth square of the numbers to get valid results though. You can clearly see on the plot that as N tends to infinity, the price difference becomes negligible, while 2.0 remains the same quality... ?

Not so.

I was using alternative math.

They are not a charity yet they choose to make less money instead of more money, just to screw players?

Obviously they would still sell core sets to new players, but they could also sell damage decks and templates to old players for like 8-10USD and make not-a-marginal profit because of near zero production cost compared to a core set.

Actual production cost maybe, but design, packaging, shipping, and distributing 1-2 additional SKUs when they're already putting all of these things into a product an existing planned product they have to sell.

Also, depending on how they're using space on the cardboard sheets there are also certainly non-template bits of cardboard on the same sheets as the templates, so it's not a simple matter of just sticking those in a separate box.

In my bemused, casual trawl through the various strings dealing with the 2.0 reboot, I have noticed a few people expressing some concern/doubts.

There's some pretty hard/rude/dismissive shooting-down of said doubts/concern going on here on these community pages.

This level of fan 'loyalty' to the FFG line is, I imagine, part of the reason why FFG think they can up the ante in terms of prices. There is a now a critical mass of custmers for this game to whom the cost of the product is becoming totally irrelevant.
