New TC 2nd Edition Designer Interview video

By Otacon, in X-Wing

Hour long interview with the lead designers. Lots of new specifics(like the ship actions for A-wings and Interceptors, for instance) and more broad discussions on their motivations and process in developing 2nd Ed.

Good interview.

I really like what they've done to my favorite ship, the A-Wing.

Our (forum) cruisers can’t repel sarcasm of that magnitude!

seriously though, any charitable posters willing to spell out the highlights for those of us at work unable to view?

On behalf of the cubicle crowd, I thank thee

Much more recent, as told by Frank's hair.

I don't think there was any real new info, mostly talk about the design process.

Lets see, EPT is now Talent. Selfless is the Rebel exclusive talent. Ruthlessness is the Imperial exclusive talent. Fearless is the Scum exclusive talent.

They mentioned that the Imperial faction is the one with the most number of ship abilities to reflect how each ship is built for a specific purpose and to make up for their lacking upgrade bar.

They mentioned stuff about faction identity. Some of this is mixed with a fair bit of conjecture. Rebels are all about setting up for their teammates and sacrificing themselves for the mission sort of deal, likely lots of token passing and modifications for that one big attacker or whoever has the best shot that round. Imperials are built around flying well and benefiting from swarm modified shots (Howlrunner) and grouping up. Scum is still about hurting themselves or their wingmates to set up for themselves. Resistance is all about the big aces, likely will have the best outright ships/pilots, that they might help each other out but its all about that super ace like Poe in your squad. First Order are zealots that are set up to sacrifice themselves to defeat their foes, maybe we might see self harming abilities to add dice mods to attacks.

Resistance sounds like Imp Aces in a new skin mwahahaha. I think I may end up going Empire, Resistance, and First Order (why not--it shouldn't be that expensive right ;) )

They're skilled like imp aces, but their ships aren't rickety death traps ;)

...movie bombers excepted

That's so true lol. I am really looking forward to that. What ships do the Resistance have besides the T-70, T-85, and A-Wing though? (I do not like the bomber at all)

They may import a couple ships from Rebs and imps to flesh out the ST factions the way they did when scum was introduced.

I look forward to seeing how they redid the Resistance and First Order. Sounds fun.

SuperCorran seems thematically right up the Resistance's alley as a superace.

Yea he kinda does, but E’s are listed in the rebel conversion kit. Maybe both?

Selfless teamwork for the rebels, Individually awesome glory hounds for the Resistance (Jess Pava was called out as a resistance teamwork card- we're working together to make ME awesome), Swarm coordination (howlrunner) and specialized technoligy (Tie striker, ect) for the empire, Suicidal Zealotry for the First order, and backstaby disruption for Scum.

With that, I think they got the faction talents wrong. Ruthlessness is a scum effect, hurting a "friend" to win the day, and Fearlessness seems more a first order thing, putting yourself in a bad position for a devastating strike.

Another interview video I haven't seen posted before:

Not really any new information that we haven't already gotten by now. Couple of interesting tidbits:

Gunner is the new slot on ships. They will help with weapon systems to increase damage and some will work with Bombs as well.

Adv. Proton Torps and Proton Rockets are confirmed. APTS will only be a 1 charge weapon and Prockects will interact with the bullseye (probably require that to fire).

The explain Threat levels and quick build cards in a bit more detail. One thing is you will get all the upgrades necessary in a pack that the quick build card comes from.

(Thought the above video was different here is the video I got the info from)

Highlight Information from BoLS Game:

Cluster Missiles require a charge to be spent to perform the attack and you can then spend a second charge to attack again with them.

Dutch Vander - After you perform a target lock action you may choose 1 friendly ship at range 1-3. That ship may acquire a lock on the object you locked, ignoring range restrictions.

You can now target lock obstacles, enemy ships, and friendly ships.

There will be abilities where you can spend locks on friendly ships.

Outmaneuver - While you perform a forward arc attack, if you are not in the defender's firing arc the defender rolls 1 fewer defense die.

Outmaneuver works on not just primary attacks but turrets/cannons and ordnance.

During the engagement phase ships are only removed at the end of the initiative round of fire. So a Initiative 5 ship destroyed by another initiative 5 ship still gets a chance to attack before being removed.

If a card has a little diamond next to a force charge/token or normal charge that shows that during the end phase it recovers 1.

Can drop bombs/mines while stressed.

Range 0 indeed means touching.

Dang I missed this. I posted a link in another thread. I’ll try to get mods to delete it.

but it works out of your primary firing arc, yeah?

and do you have to be out of the defender's primary firing arc or any firing arc?

anyway glad Dutch is actually good now. Can imagine some rather disgusting ordnance Ys staying on target

Thought I also saw somewhere that "Range 0" can include your own ship... so does this mean everyone's flying around touching themselves???

For Outmaneuver, it specifically shows the front arc on the card so only out of that. Not sure how that might play with ships like the falcon which have primary turrets, maybe it only works when firing out the front when the turret is oriented that way? And since it doesn't say anything about the defender's primary arc I think it means someplace where they aren't shooting out of so it has more variance against turret users. I guess that means you could technically outmaneuver a falcon by flying into their front arc while their turrets are shooting out the sides.

....Yes. Haha

while everyone's touching themselves, some of them try to pretend they aren't

for example, the rebels seem really prudish with all their range 1 minimum support abilities

not Howlrunner, though. Howlie knows what's good

Yeah she does!

Looking forward to TIE Swarms being a thing again and glad Howlrunner can buff herself this time around.

First, great art for her. And second after how popular she became in 1.0 I had a hard time imagining them leaving her out in 2.0. Its sort of funny how much of a fan favorite she is despite how small of a character she was in the EU/Legends.
