I am super psyched about 2E coming up. I have no problem paying $50 for the upgrade kits. I will probably just buy the Imperial one off the bat and then get the other ones slowly as I have the money. And for a little while I was pretty sure that I wouldn't need to really buy the actual game box. I have templates (sure they don't have the line but they would still work) I have tons of dice. I have tons of X-wings and TIE Fighters. I even have a smart phone.

But then it hit me. The Damage Deck. The only think from the starter set that I can't get somewhere else is that dang Damage Deck. $40 is a pretty steep price if the only thing I need is the damage deck.

Dear FFR, please sell your damage deck separately.

Buy one from ebay or a local that doesn't need it. Anyone that pre-orders and gets the promo damage deck will have a spare, and I'm sure there'll be people buhing multiple core set s(people have bought multiple of the other 2 core sets, so I imagine the same will e true for this one) with extra decks to spare.

Edit: Sorry, won't work from FFG direct but talk to your FLGS and I bet they can get you one when you buy your conversion kits.

The pilots and upgrades in the core are different than the ones in the expansions.

Don't forget the 1 Forward for the new barrel rolls!

Meh good news for me I guess be ebaying that thing the second I get it. I want the stuff in the box not 2 damage decks. Likely will buy 2 cores eventually anyway.

The conversion kits won't have the core set pilots or upgrades (IE., R2-D2 and Luke Skywalker), either, so...probably worth getting for those.

Nevermind the new X-Wing has wings that move! That's pretty cool.

And as you note - the maneuver templates did change (the line down the center). So that's not nothing.

And others have noted that the core set ship count tends to be factored into the 'typical builds possible' with the conversion kits. (IE., the Imperial conversion kit only has parts for 4x TIE Fighters. But the core set has 2x TIE Fighters, so you're up to 6 now. Ditto X-Wings - Rebel core set only has 2x X-Wings. But you'll get another 2nd edition X-Wing in Saw's Renegades, and another 2nd edition X-Wing in the core set, for 4x X-Wings total.)

Or just think of it as a paying for all the development that went into designing a new game and the accompanying app. You're getting more than just material goods for the price, after all.

I mean, gimme like 40 of your old upgrade cards from 1.0 and a sharpie and I can make you a 2.0 damage deck pretty quick...

I am also much less enthusiastic about the price point for the new core compared to the conversion kits but at $32 online or $40 at a FLGS I’ll still get it for all the core pilots and the flappy X-Wing. I’ll almost certainly buy acrylic templates or get someone to put a line through the ones I’ve got so I don’t particularly care about cardboard templates either.

Who needs upgrade cards. Just sharpie a TFA damage deck. Enough of the damage cards are the same or close enough it'd be easy enough to modify.

Even master craftsmen have to make the odd mistake on their way. That's the kind of high level experience your money is paying for.

I can be pretty careful. All I need to do in is find the exact center on the two short edges and then draw a line. I might even use a metal ruler. I guess I am an expert craftsman.

****, on the 1s you don't even need a line, just marks on each end for where the center is for barrel rolling.

Why don’t you pre order the core set, you get a bonus full size damage deck with the pre-order, then sell the unopened core set, you can probably get full price since they will be hot demand for full price, and there you go, free damage deck

who knows maybe in the 4-5 months till it comes in you might change your mind and just keep it, which I think would be smart and worth you while

Without the red 5 X-wing with moveable S-foils, you can't say "Red Five, put your S-foils in attack position." And without that, how can you consider your life complete?
